John Kelly Fans 11 in Brockton Rox 5-2 Win Over Nashua Pride

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Brockton, MA – RHP John Kelly tied his season-high with 11 strikeouts as he scattered five hits over eight innings and allowed two runs (one earned) en route to a 5-2 win for the Rox over the Nashua Pride on Wednesday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.  1B Jason Colson picked up a home run and a double and scored twice in the victory.

Kelly dueled throughout the game with Nashua starter RHP Lance Stevens.  Nashua took the first lead of the game in the third inning.  Kelly struck out the first two batters of the third before DH Mike Torres and 3B Ismael Castro each singled.  Then LF Jerod Edmondson reached on an error which allowed Torres to come home and score and give Nashua a 1-0 advantage.  Kelly struck out C Luis Rodrigues to end the inning.

Colson led off the bottom of the fourth inning with his seventh home run to tie the game at 1-1.  Two innings later, he doubled with the bases empty and two outs and moved up to third on an error.  He scored two pitches later on a wild pitch by Stevens to give the Rox a 2-1 lead.

Nashua tied the game in the seventh inning when Castro scored on a wild pitch with two outs.  Nashua turned the game over to the bullpen tied at 2-2 for the seventh and eighth innings.  LHP Michael Joyce started the eighth after working the seventh, but allowed a leadoff single to 2B Melvin Falu.  The Pride called upon RHP Rich Garces to face fellow Venezuelan LF Dennis Abreu.  Abreu ripped a double down the left-field line and Falu scored form first base giving the Rox a 3-2 advantage.  Brockton would score two more times in the ninth en route to the 5-2 win.

RHP Jerry Dunn recorded his 14th save of the season, facing four batters in the ninth.  Kelly has won three of his last four, and the Rox are on a season-high five-game winning streak.  Brockton will host Nashua in the series finale on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
