MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –Grand Prairie, TX (07.03.08) - Grand Prairie put 11 runs on the board in the first two innings, as they cruised to a 14-2 victory to close out a three-game series with the El Paso Diablos on Thursday evening. The team tied a season-high with 18 hits in the game.
The AirHogs put four quick runs on the board in the bottom of the first to take the 4-0 lead. David Espinosa led off with an infield single, and was plated on a fielding error at third base by J.D. Reineger on a grounder off the bat of Edwin Maldonado. The second run came in on a line drive RBI double for Derek Nicholson that brought in Maldonado racing all the way from first. J.B. Tucker came up to the dish and smashed a two-run homer to left center field, his team leading seventh, to put the AirHogs up 4-0.
Grand Prairie batted around in the bottom of the second inning and put seven runs on the board with six hits. Derek Nicholson, Mike Conroy, and Brandon Carter all came up with RBI doubles in the frame to help propel the AirHogs to the early 11-0 lead.
El Paso put one run on the board in the top of the third inning. Matt Kent came up with an RBI infield single to David Espinosa that plated Kory Drew from third.
The Diablos added a second run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI fielder's choice for Brian Cooksey that brought in Alex Derhak.
Grand Prairie took the 12-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. J.B. Tucker trotted home with the bases loaded on a walk for David Espinosa.
The AirHogs added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the commanding 14-2 advantage.
Nat Harris (4-1) notched the victory for the AirHogs. He hurled seven quality innings, surrendering only two runs on seven hits with one walk and five Ks.
Ben Thurmond (0-2) was the losing pitcher and lasted just one inning for the El Paso Diablos. He allowed seven runs, three earned, off of seven hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
The AirHogs will open up a three-game-series against the visiting Pensacola Pelicans tomorrow, first pitch is set for 6:35 PM.
