Kansas City T-Bones Fall Short and Drop 10-4 Game to Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks - Northern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – FARGO, N.D. – The Kansas City T-Bones fell short in their bid for a three-game sweep of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tonight as they dropped game three 10-4 at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.
 
Chris Rhoads made his first professional start for Kansas City, holding Fargo scoreless through the first two innings before allowing four runs on four hits in the third inning.  RBI singles by Joe Mathis and Ruben Salazar drove in the first two runs prior to a two-run double by Jimmy Hurst that capped off the scoring.

Rhoads was charged with two more runs in the sixth inning, the first coming when the last batter he faced, Jeff Eure, singled home Alan Rick.  Reliever Rick Hummel surrendered a single to Zach Penprase to plate Eure, completing Rhoads’ line at six runs on five hits in five and one-thirds innings as he suffered the loss.
 
Fargo starter Dane Renkert was stellar through the first five innings, holding the T-Bones to just three hits over the scoreless span.  Kansas City finally broke through in the sixth, using three walks and a two-run double to chase Renkert from the contest with just one out in the frame.  Eric Scriven capped off the T-Bones scoring with a two-run single off Adam Rowe to pull within two, 6-4.
 
Renkert was charged with all four runs, allowing just four hits over six and one-thirds innings as he improved to 4-4 on the season.  Rowe picked up his first save of the season after throwing the final two and two-thirds innings for Fargo.
 
The RedHawks pulled away with a four-run seventh, using four hits to take a 10-4 lead in the frame.  Payton Tweddale got the final out in the sixth and sandwiched a single between two outs in the seventh before giving way to Brady Martinez.  The first four batters Martinez faced reached on a walk and three hits, including a two-run single by Steve Mortimer that plated half of the inning’s runs.
 
Tweddale finished with one run on one hit in one inning of work.  Martinez allowed three runs on three hits in one and one-thirds innings to finish the game for the T-Bones.
 
John Martin finished three-for-four with a double and two RBI to pace the T-Bones.
 
Kansas City heads home tomorrow to begin a three-game set against the Schaumburg Flyers to close out the first half.  The T-Bones send Anthony Boughner to the mound opposite Brad Mumma for the Flyers.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
