Sioux City Explorers Rip Sioux Falls Canaries 9-2 - American Association

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - SIOUX CITY, IA -- After the Canaries scored 3 runs off of Paige Dumont in the first inning, the right-hander settled down and tossed the first complete game of his career as the Explorers scored 9 unanswered runs to beat Sioux Falls 9-2 on Friday night at Lewis & Clark Park.

Dumont gave up 3 runs on a RBI fielders choice by Beau Torbert and RBI singles by Ben Van Iderstine and Paul Smyth.  The 6'8 righty went 9 IP, allowed 3 ER on 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7 to improve to 4-1 on the season.

The X's followed up the Canaries 3 runs with 3 of their own in the bottom of the first.  Three straight singles started the inning off of Canary hurler Travis Kane with Alex Llanos driving in Jason Tuttle.  Juan Camacho then singled with the bases loaded to bring in 2 more and tie the game at 3-3.

McCoola's double play grounder scored Dustin Jones to make it 4-3 Sioux City and the X's would never look back from there.

The X's would score 2 in the 3rd on a RBI triple by Chad Gabriel and a RBI bunt hit by Jones.  Then Chris Grossman hit a 2 run shot off of reliever Angelo Morales and the X's would tack on 1 more run on a sac fly by Derek Scheremerhorn in the 7th.

After giving up 4 hits in the first inning, Dumont would allow a lead off single from Andrew Barbaro, would pick him off and then not allow another hit until the 9th.  Dumont would retire 11 in a row until giving up 2 walks in the 6th and then retire 7 more in a row before allowing 2 hits in the 9th.  Kane, meanwhile, came into the game with a ERA of 2.10, 2nd in the league, but gave up 6 earned runs in just 3 innings on 11 hits and fell to 6-3 on the season.
