St. Paul Saints Lose to Lincoln Saltdogs 4-1 Despite Record Home Crowd Support
Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 08:18AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com –ST. PAUL, MN (July 4, 2008) – In front of the second largest crowd in St. Paul Saints history the Saints lost 4-1 to the Lincoln Saltdogs on Friday night at Midway Stadium in front of 9,056.
For the second consecutive night the Saints ran into a hot pitcher, this time Saltdogs righty Jarrett Gardner. The Saints managed just five hits and got their only run in the second inning when Ryan Priddy doubled with two outs and scored on an RBI single from Josh Womack that tied the game at one. Gardner hurled 7.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while walking two and striking out four.
The Saltdogs got the go ahead run in the fourth inning when Mario Delgado launched a solo shot over the right field wall, his seventh of the season, to make it 2-1.
ADVERTISEMENT In the sixth Delgado hurt the Saints again with a double to right-center. With two outs Dustin Bolton walked Curt Miaso and then gave up an RBI single to Shawn McGill to make it 3-1. Bolton lasted 5.2 innings allowing three runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one.
The Saltdogs tacked on an insurance run in the eighth against reliever Mike Bille. With two outs Curt Miaso singled to center and advanced to second on a passed ball by Kevin Sullivan. After a walk to McGill, Corey Harrington followed with an RBI single to right.
The Saints tried to tie it in the ninth against closer Benny Cepeda. With two outs Heath Keel walked and pinch hitter Julius Thames singled to left, but Ryan Priddy, who finished the night 2-4 with two doubles, struck out to end the game.
