Wayne Lundgren Hurls Seven Solid Innings in Brockton Rox 10-5 Win Over Worcester Tornadoes

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com -

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Brockton, MA – C Josh Vander Hey and DH Jason Colson each homered and RHP Wayne Lundgren was dominant as the Rox snapped a four-game losing streak on Saturday night with a 10-5 win over the Worcester Tornadoes. Lundgren picked up his third win of the season by delivering seven innings in which he allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts.

The Rox led the entire way, scoring a first-inning run on 3B Phillip Cuadrado’s RBI triple which brought home 2B Melvin Falu. In the second inning, Vander Hey hit his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot to extend the lead to 3-0. One inning later, Colson added his second home run of the year when he blasted a three-run shot deep to right to extend the lead to 6-0. Brockton scored in each of the first four innings and pushed the lead to 8-0 on RF Jud Thigpen’s two-run double in the fourth.

The run support was plenty for Lundgren who retired the first eight Tornadoes who came to the plate, and didn’t face more than four batters in an inning until the seventh. After Lundgren departed, the Tornadoes put four runs on the Rox bullpen in the eighth inning to pull the score to 9-5. Brockton added an insurance run with Thigpen’s third RBI of the night, a single scoring 2B Dominic Ramos in the eighth.

Eight of the nine starters in the Rox lineup recorded hits in the game and seven scored runs in the game. 2B Melvin Falu was 4-4 with four singles and two runs scored. Thigpen and Colson each had three RBIs and Ramos, Falu, and Vander Hey each scored twice.

Brockton and Worcester play game three of the four game series on Sunday evening with a first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM. Rox RHP Stevie Delabar (1-1, 2.89 ERA) will square off against Worcester RHP Matt Weagle (6-2, 3.94 ERA).
