Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Weekly Newsletter

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-The Handyman- Toronto Nationals top-scorer Merrick Thomson now has over 150 ground balls. Thomson led the Nationals on Saturday with five goals and one assist, and added two goals on June 25 in Boston. He also sits third in the League in points with 28.

Back on Track-
Cannons midfielder Matt Poskay recorded his 100th point against Toronto, after tallying 2 goals and 2 assists. Poskay missed the first part of the 2009 season after a battle with testicular cancer. Cleared to play a couple weeks ago, Poskay is back to his scoring ways. Boston has not lost a game since his return to the field.
Man Down? No Problem- Cannons rookie Brandon Corp continued break the ice in the stat book by recording his first shorthanded goal of his career. The goal came in the second quarter of Thursday’s game against Toronto. Unassisted, the goal came as one of the 10 first-half goals that would eventually lead to Boston’s 19-15 win over the Nationals.
Deuces Wild- The Washington Bayhawks and midfielder Kyle Dixon tied MLL history in Saturday night’s game against Chicago. Dixon tied the individual single-game two-point record with 3 deuces. The Bayhawks tacked on another 2, one from rookie Ben Hunt and one fromJake Byrne to tie the MLL single-game team two-point record with 5. Dixon currently leads all midfielders with 17 goals and is tied for first with points (30).
Byrne’n Down the House- Washington Bayhawks Jake Byrne had his first game winning goal of his career against the Chicago Machine. Byrne’s game-winner came in the fourth quarter, on a sweet two-pointer, the fifth of the night for the Bayhawks.
Fire at Will- Boston Cannons all-star Paul Rabil has taken 150 shots in his career. Of those 150 shots, he has produced 40 career goals, including 6 two-pointers. Rabil joined the Cannons last season and has only played 16 games. He averages just over 2 goals a game.
Queen City- Nationals goalie Brett Queener had his 122nd save on Thursday against the Boston Cannons. In only his second season in the MLL, Queener has quickly become notorious for jetting out of the cage after a save. Queener has accumulated a career 8-2 record, with career 12.24 goals against average.
The Hunted- Washington’s Ben Hunt made his debut this weekend against Chicago. He made an immediate impact by scoring his first goa,l which was a 2-pointer. Max Siebald is the only other rookie to score a two-pointer.
A Mile Above-Denver’s Brendan Mundorf collected his 150th career point in a victory over Toronto. As the current lead scorer for the Outlaws, Mundorf has played in Denver for his entire career, which started in 2006. Since then, Mundorf has earned 112 goals and 38 assists.  Last season, Mundorf was second in points scored with 44.
The Sims 3 (MLL Edition)- Denver Outlaws Josh Sims played in his 75th game and had his 180th point against the Toronto Nationals last weekend. Sims has been part of the league since 2004. In his 75th game, Sims recorded 2 goals and 2 assists, en route to another victory over Toronto and the Outlaws’ sixth win of the season.
…Wait, there are more rookies? Rutgers graduate Chris O’Dougherty played in his first game, about 4 weeks since the 2009 MLL Draft. The defenseman was chosen by the Denver Outlaws as the first of the squad’s three fourth-round selections.

Snide Remarks- Nationals face-off man Geoff Snider had his 200th groundball against Denver. Also, he scored his first two-pointer goal of his career. Snider leads all face-off specialists in points, assists, goals, and two-pointers. Snider has 14 points in the ’09 season, while all other face-off men combine for 15.
Best Things Come In Small Packages- Nationals rookie Corey Small played in his first game against Denver this past weekend. While he only recorded a penalty, Small should make a big impact for the Nationals offense.
American Outlaw- Denver goalie Jesse Schwartzman has 315 saves in what has been a very productive career. The former Blue Jay is midway through his third season with the Outlaws and has moved up on list of the great goalies. He is already 10th in career wins and 9th on career save percentage. On top of all this, Schwartzman also recorded his first assist/point against Toronto. The assist went to Drew Westervelt, capping off a 6-goal run for the Outlaws in the third quarter.
Just a Reminder- The Washington Bayhawks have moved up the start time for their July 4thgame against the Long Island Lizards in Annapolis. The game will now start at 6:15 PM ET in order to accommodate fans wishing to view the Annapolis 4th of July fireworks display.

Don’t Forget!- Chicago’s July 4th game versus the Toronto Nationals, which was originally scheduled to be played at Toyota Park, has been moved to Glenbrook South HS in Glenview, IL. Game time is at 4 PM CT.
