2007 SEASON IN A NUTSHELL: Despite a winning record of 73-68 (.518), the Curve failed to reach the
Eastern League playoffs for the first time since the 2002 season. Altoona finished in third place in the E.L. South,
trailing division-champion Erie (Tigers) by 8 1/2 games and wild-card winner Akron (Indians) by seven full games. The
Curve’s 73-68 mark was the fourth-best overall in the 12-team Eastern League and was three games better than E.L.
Northern Division wild-card winner Portland (Sea Dogs).
MODELS OF CONSISTENCY: The Curve posted 70 or more wins for the sixth consecutive season in 2007,
marking the longest such streak among all Eastern League franchises. In nine seasons, Altoona has finished with only
two losing campaigns (1999 and 2001).
ANOTHER LEIP YEAR: For the second consecutive season, the Curve were managed by Tim Leiper. The 41-
year old veteran minor league manager returned to lead the Curve for a second season after leading the 2006
version to the Eastern League playoffs. Including the Curve’s 73-68 mark in 2007, Leiper now has a career record of
552-499 (.525) in eight seasons as a minor league skipper. Leiper was joined on the bench by pitching coach Ray
Searage, hitting coach Brandon Moore, trainer Thomas Pribyl and strength coach Chad Short.
THRU THE TURNSTILES: The Curve enjoyed another solid season at the gates, drawing a total of 356,339 fans
to Blair County Ballpark. The attendance total marked the sixth consecutive season in which Altoona welcomed
more than 350,000 fans thru the gates at BCB.
AT THE PLATE: The Curve featured one of the Eastern League’s most consistent lineups throughout the 2007
Eastern League season, but interestingly did not place a single player among the league’s offensive statistical leaders at
the end of the year. Altoona finished fourth in the league with a .265 team average, ranked tied for eighth in home
runs (100) and posted the second-most stolen bases in the circuit with 141 in 179 attempts (79%). While not
qualifying as a season-ending league leader in any offensive category, first baseman Steven Pearce turned in one of
the top offensive seasons in the E.L., batting .334 with 14 home runs, 72 RBI and a .586 slugging percentage in 81
games. The Curve’s Most Valuable Player was leading the league in both batting average and slugging percentage at
the time of his promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis on July 30. Outfielder Adam Boeve led the team in home runs
with 17 and posted two of the Curve’s seven multiple home run games on the season. Pirates’ top prospects,
outfielder Andrew McCutchen and third baseman Neil Walker, were two of the league’s youngest players at 20
and 21 years old, respectively, but posted solid numbers before each received a late-season promotion to Triple-A.
After a slow start, McCutchen hit .307 over his final 41 games with Altoona and finished with a .258 average, 10
home runs and 48 RBI in 118 games. Walker, meanwhile, was very consistent throughout the campaign, hitting .288
with 13 homers and 66 RBI in 117 games.
ON THE HILL: The Curve pitching staff started the season slowly and ranked near the bottom of the Eastern
League in team ERA during the middle portion of the season, but finished strong and ended with a respectable 4.24
ERA (tied for 5th in the E.L.). Altoona hurlers posted a league-best 3.32 ERA during the month of August to
complete the solid turnaround. The staff was anchored by right-handed starter Luis Munoz, who won a team-high
12 games and posted a 3.63 ERA, which ranked 9th in the E.L. Closer Matt Peterson established a new singleseason
franchise record with 29 saves, a total which also tied him for the league lead. Veteran right-hander Dewon
Brazelton joined the club at mid-season and tied for the E.L. lead with three complete games in his 15 starts.
IN THE FIELD: Altoona featured one of the Eastern League’s top fielding clubs in 2007. The Curve finished third
in the circuit with a .976 team fielding percentage and led the league by turning 139 double plays in 141 contests.
Individually, Brandon Chaves posted the E.L.’s highest fielding percentage (.968) among league shortstops with at
least 400 total chances. Brian Peterson finished with the second-highest caught stealing percentage among E.L.
catchers at 42.4% (25-of-59).
HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL-STAR: Reliever Matt Peterson was the only Curve player selected to the
Eastern League’s annual post-season All-Star Team. The 25-year old went 4-2 with a club-record 29 saves and a 1.98
ERA in 51 relief appearances. His 29 saves tied Connecticut’s Brian Anderson for the most in the league. Peterson
was also one of six Curve players to be selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game on July 11 at Dodd Stadium in
Norwich, CT, the home of the Connecticut Defenders. He was joined by fellow pitchers Dave Davidson and Luis
Munoz, first baseman Steven Pearce, third baseman Neil Walker and catcher Brian Peterson.
PROSPECTS-A-PLENTY: Six of Baseball America’s Top 10 Pirates’ prospects spent time with the Curve during
the 2007 season. The Opening Day roster featured three of the organization’s top five prospects in outfielder
Andrew McCutchen (#1), third baseman Neil Walker (#2) and pitcher Yoslan Herrera (#5). First baseman
Steven Pearce (#7), outfielder Brad Corley (#9) and pitcher Todd Redmond (#10) were the other top Bucco
prospects to join the club throughout the season.
CLIMBING THE LADDER QUICKLY: Steven Pearce became the first position player in the Pirates’
organization to make the jump from the Class-A ranks to the major leagues in the same season since Yamid Haad in
1999. Pearce, who opened the season with Class-A Lynchburg and later spent time with Altoona and Indianapolis,
hit a combined .333 with 31 home runs and 113 RBI in 134 minor league contests.
PEARCE’S PLACE IN HISTORY: Steven Pearce finished the year second in Curve history in both batting
average (.334) and slugging percentage (.586). Jeff Keppinger holds the single-season club record for batting
average with a .338 mark in 2004 while Adam Hyzdu’s .612 slugging percentage in 1999 is the best in that category.
CURVE TO THE MAJORS: Three players -- pitchers Dave Davidson and Romulo Sanchez and first baseman
Steven Pearce -- made the jump from Altoona to Pittsburgh during the 2007 season. Sanchez was the only one of
the three to be called up directly from the Curve to the Pirates. The right-hander was recalled by Pittsburgh on
August 25 and made his MLB debut that night at Houston. Pearce joined the Bucs on September 1 after having his
contract purchased from Triple-A Indianapolis, while Davidson was recalled following the completion of Indy’s season.
SEASON-ENDING AWARDS: The Curve announced their season-ending player awards prior to the August 30
home finale at Blair County Ballpark. Headlining the award winners were Most Valuable Player Steven Pearce and
Pitcher of the Year Matt Peterson. Other Curve award winners were catcher Brian Peterson (“Unsung Hero
Award” presented by Uncle Charley’s Sausage Co.) and outfielder Adam Boeve (“Bud Select King of Swing”) as
the team's final home run leader.

2007 SEASON NOTEBOOK
66 AND COUNTING: In addition to pitchers Dave Davidson and Romulo Sanchez and first baseman Steven Pearce, three other former Curve
players made their major league debuts during the 2007 season to bring the all-time number of former Altoona players to reach the big leagues to 66. Those
players were outfielder Nyjer Morgan (Pirates), infielder Craig Stansberry (Padres) and pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo (Nationals).
HOME SWEET HOME?: The Curve went just 14-18 over their final 32 games at Blair County Ballpark. By contrast, Altoona played very well on the road
down the stretch, winning 19 of their last 28 away from BCB.
WELCOME MATT, TO THE RECORD BOOKS: Matt Peterson established a new single-season Curve franchise record with 29 saves during the 2007
campaign. Peterson surpassed the previous club record of 27, which was set by Brandon Knight during the 2006 season.
BEST OF THE BUCCOS: Right-handed pitcher Luis Munoz led all Pirates’ minor league pitchers with 14 wins between Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis.
The 25-year old opened the season as the only member of the Curve’s starting rotation without any previous Double-A experience, but went on to lead the
club with 12 wins. He also won two of his three starts at Indy, including a victory in his Triple-A debut on July 4 vs. Louisville (AAA/Reds). Munoz was twice
named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, including the final week of the season after he won his last two starts and yielded only two unearned runs in 13.2
innings of work. He was also honored as E.L. Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 7-13 after winning a pair of starts, including a May 7 start against Erie in
which he tossed seven scoreless innings and struck out a season-high 10 batters.
LONG SEASON, NO LONGBALLS: Infielder Brandon Chaves set a dubious single-season franchise mark by going homerless in 336 at-bats during the
season. The previous record of 195 at-bats was also set by Chaves during the 2005 campaign.
COMING UP “SHORT”: The Curve posted just an 8-19 in games started by Josh Shortslef, a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 40-man roster. Altoona’s
offense scored three runs or fewer in 14 of Shortslef’s 27 starts this season. The left-hander finished the season with a 5-13 record and a 4.40 ERA.
NO-HITTERS WITH AN ASTERIK: The Curve were on the short end of two individual no-hitters during the 2007 season, however, both were of the
rain-shortened variety. The first no-hit effort by an opposing pitcher came on July 4 at Trenton, when Thunder right-hander Brett Smith was credited with a
five-inning no-hitter in a 10-0 win over the Curve. Smith was very erratic in that contest, walking seven batters in his five innings of work. The second no-no
tossed against Altoona came on August 21 at Reading, when Phillies’ righty Carlos Carrasco did not allow a hit over six innings in a rain-shortened game.
McCUTCHEN, WALKER PROMOTED: On one of the busiest days in franchise history, eight different players were involved in transactions on August 17.
Most notable among the roster moves were the promotions of Pirates’ top prospects Andrew McCutchen and Neil Walker to Triple-A Indianapolis. In
addition, left-handed reliever Dave Davidson was also sent to Indy on that day. While three players under the age of 23 were on their way to Triple-A, among
the players received by the Curve on that day were a pair of 34-year old major league veterans, third baseman Russ Johnson and pitcher Jose Paniagua.
DEWON-DERFUL PERFORMANCE: RHP Dewon Brazelton was the only Curve pitcher to earn a nine-inning victory during the season, recording the
feat in the Curve’s 6-1 win at Binghamton on August 16. The 27-year old allowed just one unearned run and four hits in the outing. Prior to that outing, the
last Curve pitcher to go the distance in a nine-inning contest was Tom Gorzelanny in Game Three of the 2005 E.L. Divisional Playoffs vs. Akron.
FINALLY A “WALK” AROUND THE BASES: Third baseman Neil Walker ended a 40-game home run drought with a longball in the first inning of the
Curve’s August 10 game at New Hampshire. Walker, who hit 13 homers in a Curve uniform before his promotion to Triple-A on August 17, had not homered
since hitting a grand slam in the nightcap of a doubleheader on June 28 vs. Trenton. The 21-year old hit nine of his 13 Curve home runs over his first 46 games.
INSIDE THE INSIDE THE PARK HOMER: On August 5 vs. New Hampshire, Andrew McCutchen recorded the first-ever inside-the-park home run hit
by a Curve player at Blair County Ballpark. The dash around the bases was the third inside-the-parker in club history and McCutchen’s second of the season.
He also legged one out on May 21 at Akron. Garrett Long had the only other inside-the-park homer in team history on July 28, 2000 at New britain.
NINTH-INNING BLOWN LEAD: The Curve’s 4-3, 10-inning loss vs. New Hampshire on August 3rd marked the first time in 110 games to open the
season that the Curve lost a game when leading entering the ninth inning. The Curve had been a perfect 44-0 when leading into the ninth entering that game.
DELANEY DELIVERED IN JULY: First baseman/outfielder Jason Delaney posted an impressive .324 average (33x102) in 28 games in July and the
month was packed full of superlatives for the 24-year old, who began the season at Class-A Lynchburg. The month saw Delaney record a team season-high 13-
game hitting streak from July 14-26 (.471, 24x51), a franchise-record streak of 12 consecutive games with an RBI (July 15-26), a club record-tying string of hits
in seven straight at-bats (July 18-19), a 4-for-4, two-homer game on July 16 vs. Bowie and a five-hit game (5-for-5) on July 18 vs. Bowie. Delaney also earned E.L.
Player of the Week honors for the week ending July 22 after hitting .586 (17x29) with three homers and 11 RBI in seven games during the week.
PEARCE PROMOTED: Following the Curve’s game on July 29 at Akron, first baseman Steven Pearce was promoted to Triple-A Indianapolis. At the time of
his promotion, Pearce’s .334 batting average and .586 slugging percentage was leading the Eastern League and his combined 96 RBI’s between Class-A
Lynchburg and Altoona was leading all minor league hitters.
EVEN STEVEN: Steven Pearce matched a franchise record by reaching base safely by way of a hit or walk in 33 consecutive games from June 15-July 22.
Pearce’s 33-game on-base streak equaled Ronny Paulino’s existing mark from the 2004 campaign. During the length of the streak, Pearce posted a .370
average (44x119).
A SENATORIAL CENTURY MARK: The Curve's 5-2 win over Harrisburg on July 21 was the club’s 100th all-time victory in the season series against the
Senators. Harrisburg became the first E.L. club against whom Altoona has reached the century mark in all-time wins.
E.L. ALL-STAR WRAP: Six Curve players participated in the 2007 Eastern League All-Star Game on July 11 in Norwich, CT. Three Altoona players saw
action in the contest before the game was called in the bottom of the third inning because of heavy fog. Neil Walker, who started at third base and batted
third, went 1-for-2, including a first-inning single off Northern Division pitcher Jeff Marquez of the Trenton Thunder. First baseman Steven Pearce and
catcher Brian Peterson also started for the Southern Division All-Stars and both struck out in their lone plate appearance. Pitchers Dave Davidson, Luis
Munoz and Matt Peterson did not appear in the game.
THE FUTURES IS NOW: Steven Pearce represented the Curve and Pittsburgh Pirates' organization at the annual XM Satellite Radio MLB Futures Game
on July 8th at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Pearce went 0-for-1 with a walk in two plate appearances for the U.S. Team.
DOUBLE DEBUTS: Right-handed pitchers Mike Crotta and Brandon Williams each made their Double-A debuts in the Curve’s rain-shortened 10-0
loss at Trenton on July 4. Crotta, who was called up to make a spot start from Low Class-A Hickory, started the game and allowed seven runs -- three earned --
on six hits over 2.2 innings to take the loss. Williams, who was called up from the short-season State College Spikes, pitched in relief in the contest and yielded
three runs on five hits in 1.1 innings of work. The duo became the first two members of the Pirates’ 2006 Draft Class to reach the Double-A level.
THE FIRST OF MANY: Pitcher Brandon Williams became the first-ever player to appear for both the Curve and their sister franchise, the State College
Spikes, when he made his Double-A debut on July 4 at Trenton. Williams had been pitching for State College at the time of his emergency call up to Double-A.
The Spikes completed their second overall season in the short-season Class-A New York-Penn League -- and their first as a Pirates’ affiliate -- in 2007.
PEARCE NAMED JUNE PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Steven Pearce was named Eastern League Player of the Month for June after hitting .404
(40x99) with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 27 games during the month. Pearce, who was the Carolina League's Player of the Month in April before being
promoted from Class-A Lynchburg to Altoona, was also named E.L. Player of the Week for the final week of the month of June.
MONTHLY MATTERS: The Curve posted a winning mark of 17-11 in June after back-to-back losing months to open the season (9-11 in April and 14-16 in
May). In the nine-year history of the Curve, the club has had just one losing month of June (2001).
JUNE GONE TOO SOON: Several Curve players posted outstanding numbers during the month of June, led by Eastern League Player of the Month
Steven Pearce, who hit .404 (40x99) with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 27 games during the month. Third baseman Neil Walker (.363, 33x91), catcher
Brian Peterson (.345, 20x58) and infielder Brandon Chaves (.318, 28x89) also enjoyed solid months at the plate.
THUNDER STRUCK DOWN AT BCB: The Curve swept a four-game series against the eventual Eastern League champion Trenton Thunder from June
26-29 at Blair County Ballpark. Dating back to the 2003 season when the Thunder became the New York Yankees’ Double-A affiliate, the Curve have posted a
17-2 record against Trenton in games played at BCB.
DELANEY DEBUTS: Outfielder Jason Delaney made his Double-A debut in the Curve's doubleheader vs. Trenton on July 28 at Blair County Ballpark.
Delaney, who was leading the Class-A Carolina League with a .340 average at the time of his promotion from Lynchburg, hit safely in both ends of the twinbill,
going 2-for-5 with a double, two walks and a run scored.
2007 SEASON NOTEBOOK
A GRAND “WALK” AROUND THE BASES: Third baseman Neil Walker belted the second of only two grand slams hit by Curve batters during the
season in game two of the Curve’s doubleheader sweep vs. Trenton on June 28 at Blair County Ballpark. Steven Pearce connected for the club’s only other
grand slam on June 13 vs. New Britain.
GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE!: The Curve's 9:35 a.m. first pitch on June 25 at Reading marked the second-earliest start to a game in team history.
Altoona dropped the game to the R-Phils at Reading's FirstEnergy Stadium, 4-3. The only game in Curve history to start earlier than the June 25 contest took
place on May 8, 2002, when the Curve and Phillies played a 9:05 a.m. game in Reading.
BRAZELTON IN THE FOLD: Pitcher Dewon Brazelton, who was signed by Pittsburgh as a minor league free agent on May 31, made his Curve starting
debut on June 16 vs. Connecticut. The 27-year old was the third overall selection in the 2001 June Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and made 63 major
league appearances (43 starts) over parts of five seasons with Tampa Bay (2002-05) and San Diego (2006). In 15 starts for the Curve, the right-hander went
5-5 with three complete games and a 3.53 ERA.
A NICE HOME RUN: The Curve recorded the second-longest home winning streak in club history by posting eight consecutive wins at Blair County
Ballpark from May 30-June 14. The club fell just one game shy of the franchise-record nine-game home winning streak set during the 2001 season.
FIVE ALIVE! The Curve matched a single-game franchise record by hitting five home runs in a 13-3 win over New Britain on June 12. Steven Pearce and
Brett Roneberg each hit a pair of longballs in the contest while Jason Bowers added the other homer. That marked just the third time in club history that
Altoona has produced five home runs in a game
CONTAGIOUS CLOUTS: The June 12 game vs. New Britain marked the first of two occasions during the 2007 season in which two different Curve
players recorded a pair of home runs in the same game. Steven Pearce and Brett Roneberg each went deep twice on June 12 and that feat was matched
by Adam Boeve and Jason Delaney on July 16 vs. Bowie at Blair County Ballpark.
A DAY FOR THE RECORD BOOKS: Jason Bowers and Brett Roneberg each put their name in the Curve record book during a 13-6 win at New
Britain on June 7. Bowers became the first player in club history to record five base on balls in one game and also set a single-game mark by reaching base six
times in the game, while Roneberg matched a team record by scoring four runs in the contest. The club’s 19 hits fell just two hits shy of equaling the team
record of 21 set on May 1, 2001 vs. Harrisburg.
ROUGH START: With his first win of the season on June 7 at New Britain, Curve starter Josh Shortslef avoided becoming only the second pitcher in club
history to open the season with an 0-7 record. Sam McConnell, who went on to become an Eastern League All-Star for Altoona in 2000, opened the 1999
campaign by losing each of his first seven decisions.
TRICKY TRADE: First baseman Randy Ruiz, who hit .290 with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 47 games to open the season, was traded by the Pirates to
the Philadelphia Phillies organization on June 1 and assigned to the Eastern League's Reading Phillies. Interestingly, the Curve were playing the R-Phils that day
and, in his first game with Reading, torched Altoona pitching by going 4-for-6 with a double, home run and three runs scored.
THANKS A (THREE)MILLION: The Curve officially eclipsed the three million mark in all-time regular season attendance at Blair County Ballpark during
the June 1 game against Reading. A ceremony was held following the Curve's thrilling 10-9 win over Reading and nine-year old Seana Powell of Clearfield was
randomly selected as the franchise's official three-millionth fan. Among the perks Seana received included two (2) season tickets for life, a designated space in
Blair County Ballpark's VIP Parking Lot and assorted team memorabilia and merchandise.
LONG LOSING STREAK: The Curve lost 10 consecutive games from May 17-26, the second-longest skid in franchise history. The 10-game slide began
with a 15-3 loss to Portland in game two of a May 17 doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark and continued as the Curve were swept in a three-game series vs.
Bowie May 18-20 and in a four-game set May 21-24 at Akron. Altoona then dropped the first two games of their four-game set at Bowie May 25-26 before
ending the slide on May 27 with a 7-6, 10-inning victory. The longest losing streak in club history is 11 games from April 15-26, 2000.
MUNOZ MAGNIFICENT: Luis Munoz became just the fourth pitcher in Altoona Curve history to win each of his first five decisions. The 25-year old
right-hander from the Dominican Republic joined Josh Shortslef (2006), John Van Benschoten (2003) and Wilson Guzman (2000) as the only pitchers in
club history to open with a 5-0 record.
“PEARCING” THE LINEUP: First baseman Steven Pearce homered in the first at-bat of his first start with Altoona on May 2 at Connecticut. Pearce was
promoted to the Curve roster on May 1 after opening the season with Class-A Lynchburg. In 19 games with the Hillcats, Pearce hit .347 (26x75) with 11
home runs and 24 RBI.
APRIL SHOWERS: The Curve’s 9-11 record in April marked the club’s worst opening month since the 2001 season (10-15). Interestingly, the 9-11 April
was only Altoona’s third losing month since the beginning of the 2003 season. August 2005 (15-16) and August 2006 (14-17) were the only other months
during that span to end with a losing record.
DANDY DEBUT FOR BOWERS: Infielder Jason Bowers went 2-for-5 with three RBI in his first game in a Curve uniform on April 28 at Binghamton.
The 28-year old native of Uniontown, PA, which is located approximately 60 miles south of Pittsburgh, played regularly for the Curve throughout the remainder
of the season and finished with a .272 average, eight home runs, 51 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 113 games.
WALK-OFF WINNER: Brett Roneberg provided the Curve with their first walk-off victory of the 2007 season with a fielder’s choice RBI grounder in the
bottom of the ninth inning of an 8-7 win over Harrisburg on April 22. Roneberg, the Curve's 2006 Most Valuable Player who returned to Altoona after resigning
as a minor league free agent during the off-season, also homered and plated four runs in Altoona’s first walk-off winner of the season.
A HOME FIRST: The Curve’s 7-6 loss to the Reading Phillies in their Home Opener on April 12 marked the first time in franchise history that the club
dropped its first game of the season at Blair County Ballpark. Altoona had been a perfect 8-0 in Home Openers at BCB prior to the April 12th loss.
A NEW (HERR)ERA: Cuban-born right-handed starter Yoslan Herrera made his United States pitching debut for the Curve against the Akron Aeros on
April 11. The 26-year old, who defected from Cuba in July 2005 and was signed by Pittsburgh to a major league contract in December 2006, spent his first
season in the Pirates’ organization with Altoona, going 6-9 with a 4.69 ERA in 25 starts. In 128.2 innings of work, Herrera walked 38 batters and fanned 70.
EIGHT NOT ENOUGH: Despite working only four innings on Opening Day (April 9) at Akron, left-hander Josh Shortslef struck out a season-high eight
batters, the most ever by an Altoona Opening Day starter. Shortslef allowed three runs -- two earned -- in suffering the defeat in a 6-1 Curve loss.
SNOW DAYS: The Curve had their first three scheduled games against the Erie SeaWolves postponed by snow and cold conditions at Jerry Uht Park Erie.
The series postponement in Erie marked only the second time in franchise history that three consecutive games were wiped out due to poor weather
conditions. In April 2005, the Curve had three straight games at Akron postponed because of rain and snow.
ALL-STARS RETURN: A pair of 2006 Curve Eastern League All-Stars returned to open the 2007 season in Altoona. Outfielder Brett Roneberg, who was
the MVP of the 2006 E.L. All-Star Game, returned for his third season in a Curve uniform (2003, 2006-07) while outfielder Vic Buttler, who was a member of
the league’s post-season All-Star squad in '06, also returned after finishing the 2006 campaign at Triple-A Indianapolis. In addition to the returns of Roneberg
and Buttler, the Opening Day Curve roster also featured 2006 E.L. All-Star Game winning pitcher Kip Bouknight (Harrisburg) and post-season All-Star and
league RBI champion Randy Ruiz (Trenton). Ruiz was also an E.L. post-season All-Star in 2005 with Reading after winning the league batting title (.349).
OPENING DAY ROSTER RAVINGS: The Curve broke spring training arrived in Altoona from spring training with 28 players. In order to comply with the
Eastern League’s roster limit of 24, four players opened the season on the club's Disabled List-- pitchers Jonathan Albaladejo and Mike Nannini, catcher
