MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - VERO BEACH , Fla. – Vero Beach Devil Rays starting short stop Neil Walton ( Santa Cruz , Cal. ) was named the Florida State League Offensive Player of the Week by the league office Tuesday. Walton is the first player in Vero Beach Devil Ray history to receive the honor.

Walton has hit safely in each of the six games he played during the past week, and now carries a batting average of .326 on the season. Though he failed to collect an RBI over his first eight games this season, the right-hander has driven in seven runs in his last 19 at-bats.

He has been a success at the plate no matter what the circumstance, as he is batting over .300 against both lefties and righties, at home and on the road, and in both day and night games. Walton was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 16th round of the 2005 June draft and played in Southwest Michigan during the 2006 season. He is rated as having the best infield arm in the Devil Rays system by Baseball America .
