Albuquerque Isotopes Capitalize on Walks, Defeat Memphis Redbirds 4-3
Friday, March 14, 2008 at 09:09AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – The Albuquerque Isotopes scratched out six hits and took advantage of seven walks to edge the Memphis Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3 today in Jupiter, Florida. The triumph evened Albuquerque’s Spring Training record to 1-1.
Outfielder Eric Reed, who has been a fan-favorite in Albuquerque the past three seasons, roped an RBI double to right-center in the third to give the ‘Topes a 1-0 lead before outfielder Dante Brinkley, who spent last season in Single-A Jupiter and Double-A Carolina, belted a two-run homer to right to increase the cushion to 3-0 Isotopes.
Infielder Rex Rundgren also chipped in an RBI double for Albuquerque.
Albuquerque will stay in Jupiter tomorrow to play host to the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, as Spring Training action rolls on.
