Birmingham Barons Complete Shutout of the Chatanooga Lookouts with 4-0 Victory
Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 12:59PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Clayton Richard pitched six shutout innings for the Barons, and the Birmingham bullpen preserved the shutout en route to a 4-0 win over the Lookouts in a Wednesday matinee at AT&T Field.
After a hitless first inning, Birmingham broke the scoring seal in the second inning, when a Stefan Gartrell single drove home Thomas Callaro.
The Barons tacked-on another run in the fourth inning on a Javier Castillo RBI triple. Another Birmingham run would be added in fifth on a Ricardo Nanita sac fly to center.
Both teams would fail to score a run until the ninth, when a Victor Valido single, which was preceded by a Cole Armstrong double, stretched the Barons’ lead to 4-0.
Clevelan Santeliz and Matt Zaleski pitched the final three frames for the Barons; thus, sealing the win for Richard (1-1).
Michael Griffin slugged two doubles for the Lookouts in the losing effort, giving him five for the season and the Southern League lead in that category.

ADVERTISEMENT Ramon Ramirez dropped to 1-1 on the season after throwing 3.2 innings and yielding two runs as the starting pitcher for the Lookouts.
