Potomac Nationals Come from Behind to Defeat Myrtle Beach Pelicans 4-3 - Advanced-A, Carolina League
Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 11:00AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – WOODBRIDGE, VA — After the Potomac Nationals managed only one hit through the first six innings off Myrtle Beach starter Tommy Hanson, the offensive outlook was not bright Wednesday night. However, with one swing of the bat, the Nationals were rejuvenated as they stormed from behind to defeat
the Pelicans 4-3.
Trailing 3-0 in the eighth inning, Chris Marrero picked a good time to hit
his first home run of 2008. His towering three-run homer with two outs off
Pelicans closer Brett Butts tied the game. Prior to his final at bat,
Marrero had struck out three times in the game and entered the Wednesday
hitting just .188.

P-Nats fans were rewarded for the second straight night with an appearance
from a Washington National pitcher. After Shawn Hill earned the win last
night, closer Chad Cordero (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth inning,
allowing a hit while striking out one.
After Cordero kept the game tied, the P-Nats’ clutch hitting continued.
Marvin Lowrance and Matt Rogelstad both flied out to start the inning.
With two outs, Potomac mounted a rally. Edgardo Baez and Brian Peacock
both singled, followed by a Michael Martinez walk. Jemel Spearman’s line
drive off Butts was just over the outstretched arm of shortstop Derrick
Arnold driving in Baez for the winning run.
Potomac starter and former University of Texas standout Adrian Alaniz
pitched four innings allowing three runs on three hits. Carlos Martinez
and Zech Zinicola each threw two innings of scoreless relief allowing a
combined three hits. Martinez and Zinicola have not allowed a run in seven
innings of relief.
