Midland RockHounds Crush Winless Arkansas Travelers 11-4 - AA, Texas League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Midland, TX - Tommy Everidge and John Zeringue led a 15-hit attack as the Midland RockHounds (7-0) handed the Arkansas Travelers (0-6) an 11-4 rout in the opening game of a three-game series.  Everidge drove in four runs on three hits including a home run, while Zeringue added a home run on his three base hits.  Midland socked seven extra-base hits and scored in six of eight innings.  Aaron Peel led the Travs with three hits including his first home run.  The Travs' 11 base hits is their season high.
On a night with 40 MPH winds blowing out, Arkansas RHP Fernando Rodriguez (0-1) was hit hard in the loss for nine runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and two walks.  Midland RHP Vin Mazzaro (1-0) gave a fine performance allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk in six innings.
The Travs took advantage of Mazzaro's only walk, which was issued to Coby Smith to begin the game.  Hainley Statia moved Smith to second with a weak groundout, and Ben Johnson lined a single to right field bringing home Smith for a 1-0 lead.

= Midland came right back to tie the game in the first inning on Zeringue's first hit, a double to right scoring Jesus Guzman.
Zeringue's solo home run in the second inning, a mile-high shot to left field, put Midland on top for good.
The Hounds rallied for three runs in the third inning, all coming after nobody had reached base with two outs.  Guzman hit a sharp grounder that Statia dove to stop deep at shortstop.  Statia's throw bounced past Mike Collins at first base, and Guzman was awarded a single.  Everidge then launched a two-run homer to right putting Midland up 4-1.  After Myron Leslie singled, Anthony Recker rocketed a shot over Cody Fuller's head in centerfield scoring Leslie.  Fuller and Statia each made fine throws cutting Recker down on his attempt at a triple, but the Hounds still led 5-1.
Rodriguez fell into trouble in the fourth inning with two early walks and a throwing error on a play at the plate.  Midland scored three times in the fourth on Rodriguez's error, an RBI single by Guzman and a sacrifice fly from Everidge.
Leading 9-1 in the fifth inning, Midland chased Rodriguez after back-to-back doubles by Zeringue and Justin Sellers in the sixth inning.
The Travs had chances against Mazzaro, but left runners in scoring position in the second and fourth innings.  Mazzaro left the bases loaded in the fifth when he got Johnson to bounce to second base.
Peel touched him up for a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning, but Midland added two runs in the seventh on Zeringue's third hit, an RBI single, and a sac fly by Sellers.
Arkansas OF Jordan Renz brought in the game's last two runs with a two-out single in the eighth inning.
The game was played in 2:40 and the paid attendance was 3,946.
