Memphis Redbirds Earn First Win with 5-1 Victory Over Omaha Royals - AAA, Pacific Coast League
Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 09:01AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Memphis, TN – The Memphis Redbirds earned their first win at AutoZone Park with a 5-1 win over Omaha in front of 10,106 fans Saturday night.
Royals pitchers struggled with control all night, walking nine and eventually leading to three of the Redbirds five runs. Memphis claimed the lead in the bottom of the second with three runs. Gabe Johnson knocked in the team’s first run before Jarrett Hoffpauir plated two runs with a single to center. Hoffpauir added another RBI in the sixth with a sacrifice fly. Colby Rasmus drew three walks from the leadoff spot and went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Mitchell Boggs tossed seven strong innings to pick up the victory. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits with no walks and five strikeouts in his second win of the year. Chris Perez inherited two runners in the ninth inning before nailing down his second save with a fly out to right field.
Mike Aviles scored Omaha’s lone run with a solo homer in the first inning and Shane Costa had a pair of singles. Royals starter Tyler Lumsden walked six in three innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on two hits in the loss.
Memphis will host Omaha tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Lefty Joe Rogers gets the nod for the home team and will face right-hander Matt Wright on Baptist Pediatric Kid’s Opening Day.
