Durham Bulls Blank the Visiting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 2-0
Monday, April 14, 2008 at 12:56PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Durham, NC - The Durham Bulls broke through for their first home victory of 2008 on Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, besting the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees by a score of 2-0.
Fernando Perez’s two-out, two-run double in the fifth provided all the offense the Bulls would need, plating John Rodriguez, who was 2-for-3 on the day, and Jeff Bannon.
Durham’s pitching limited the Yankees to two hits on the day. Righty Kevin Lynn made the emergency start in place of Jeff Niemann, who was recalled to Tampa Bay to make his major league debut today. Lynn allowed a hit and struck out one in 4.2 innings pitched. He gave way to Calvin Medlock (1-0, 1.42), who earned the win with 1.1 innings of one-hit relief. Grant Balfour came on with one on in the top of the seventh, allowing no hits and striking out two to earn his first save of the year.

ADVERTISEMENT Left-hander Kei Igawa (1-2, 1.72) took the loss for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, making Sunday’s contest the second in a row in which the Yankees failed to score for him.
The Yankees and Bulls close out their only series at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in 2008 tomorrow morning, Education Day, at 11:05 AM. Right-hander Mitch Talbot (0-1, 5.79) takes the mound for Durham, and righty Steven White (0-1, 6.30 ERA) will pitch for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
