Pawtucket Red Sox Win in Eleventh Over Indianapolis Indians on Bobby Kielty Single - International League
Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 04:19PM The Red Sox improve to 8-6 on the season and 2-5 on the road, while the Indians fall to 10-4 overall and 5-1 at home.
Pawtucket manufactured the go-ahead run in the 11th. 1B Brandon Moss led off with a single to center, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on Kielty’s base knock to left center.
The Pawtucket bullpen gave up only one run and four hits while striking out 12 over nine innings. Red Sox RHP Eric Hull (2.0 IP, 1 H, 4 SO) picked up the win in his first decision of 2008.
Indianapolis LHP Sean Burnett (0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 SO) gave up his first run of the season and fell to 1-1 with the loss.

ADVERTISEMENT Indians RHP T.J. Beam (2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER), RHP Marino Salas (1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 SO) and RHP Mike Thompson (1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 SO) also saw action in the Tribe’s first extra-inning contest of the year. The Indianapolis bullpen has allowed now just three runs over its last 37.2 innings.
Neither starter -- Pawtucket LHP Abe Alvarez (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 SO) or Indians RHP Luis Munoz (6.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 SO) -- figured in the decision.
Red Sox 2B Jeff Natale was a home run shy of the cycle, going 3- for-5 with one run in the first Triple-A action of his career.
Indianapolis C Raul Chavez, who was playing third base for the first time since Aug. 2, 2003, went 2-for-4 with a run, his seventh career triple and several impressive plays at the hot corner.
CF Andrew McCutchen (1-for-5, 1 R, 1 RBI) launched his third long ball of the season in the fifth, while DH Craig Wilson (2-for-4, 1 RBI) and SS Josh Wilson (1-for-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI) also registered run- scoring hits for the Indians.
The clubs combined for eight extra-base hits, including three triples and two home runs.
Post-game quotes -- Manager Trent Jewett
(on RHP Luis Munoz)
"Luis (Munoz) had to overcome some tough weather conditions during both starts on the first road trip. He looked much more relaxed and confident today. I think today’s performance is more indicative of what Luis is capable of. He had a tough break in the fourth inning (when Indians LF Kevin Thompson lost a ball in the sun) and then left a fastball over the plate (when Red Sox C George Kattaras hit a two-run homer), but, all in all, I thought he did a nice job today."
(on C Raul Chavez)
"Raul (Chavez) is a team guy who really competes. I’ve been very pleased with the way he’s gone about his business so far. Raul’s done well at the plate, but I don’t worry too much about the hitting at this point. The most important thing is how he handles our pitching staff, and he’s done a nice job in that area. Raul’s throwing has been efficient and he’s take charge in the areas that he’s needed to."
(on winning 10 of 12 games)
"Everyone in this clubhouse is a competitor and they all love winning, but, as a manager, I want to see more efficiency. We’re stranding too many runners in scoring position and earlier this season our pitching staff walked too many batters. I’ve been pleased with the defense over the first 14 games. The most refreshing statistic is we’ve only allowed one unearned run this season. You have to give Pawtucket credit today – they came up with the big hit and we got what we deserved."
