Lynchburg HIllcats Pour it on Thick Against the Salem Avalanche in 11-2 Victory

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Salem, VA—The Salem Avalanche, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, saw the Lynchburg Hillcats score 11 runs Friday night in a nine-run victory on Lewis-Gale Medical Center Field at Salem Memorial
Baseball Stadium.  The Avs (8-6) dropped an 11-2 decision to the Hillcats (5-9).

Lynchburg took the first lead of the game in the second as left fielder Jared Keel plated Kent Sakamoto with an RBI groundout.  After Steve Lerud’s run-scoring grounder in the fourth, Keel again scored Sakamoto, this time with a single to center and the ‘cats grabbed a 3-0 lead.
The Hillcats again got to Salem’s Corey Bass in the sixth as third baseman Jim Negrych punched an RBI double to left that scored Angel Gonzalez.  Two batters later, Lerud drove Negrych home with a single that was the action
for Bass.
Lynchburg followed that frame with a three-run seventh and eighth. Overall, the two through four hitters for Lynchburg went 11-for-16, scored eight runs and drove seven home.
On the Avalanche side, Wladimir Sutil posted both RBI, scoring Koby Clemens in the sixth and the eighth.
The four-game series continues Saturday night at 6:07 as lefty David Qualben faces Lynchburg’s Brian Holliday.
