MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Third baseman Yurendell de Caster sparked a five-run bottom of the third with a two-run single up the middle and Columbus posted a 5-1 victory over Indianapolis Saturday night at Cooper Stadium.
Columbus scored all of the runs it would need in the fifth. De Caster, who played in 361 games for Indianapolis from 2005-07, was seeing action in his first Triple-A contest of 2008 after beginning the campaign with Double-A Harrisburg (Pa.).
Eight Clippers came to the plate in the fifth. 1B Larry Broadway (2-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI) added a two-run triple to center and LF Garrett Guzman an RBI groundout to round out the scoring.
The Clippers improve to 7-10 on the season and 3-6 at home, while the Indians fall to 11-6 overall and 5-4 on the road.
Indianapolis RHP Jason Davis (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) suffered his first loss of the season. RHP T.J. Beam (2.0 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 SO) was the only Tribe relief pitcher used in the affair.
Columbus LHP Michael O’Connor (7.0 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO) picked up his second win of the season, while RHP Brian Sanches (0.2 IP, 2 SO) notched his fourth save.

ADVERTISEMENT LF Kevin Thompson had a season-high three hits in four at-bats and drove in the Tribe’s only run in the third inning. 2B Matt Kata (2-for-4, 1 R) and CF Andrew McCutchen (2-for-5), who extended his hitting streak to eight games, turned in multi-hit efforts for the Indians.
The teams finish up their two-game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. LHP Jason Stanford is scheduled to start for Columbus, while RHP Ty Taubenheim is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
