With one out in the top of the fifth inning, Pelicans
catcher Tyler Flowers launched a grand slam home run to left field to catapult a one run Pelicans lead to a five run lead.  The Pelicans (9-8) then cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Kinston Indians (3-10) in the series finale at Historic Grainger Stadium.  With the win, the Pelicans remain just a half game behind the Salem Avalanche, who defeated the Lynchburg Hillcats 3-0, for first place in the Southern division.

The Pelicans appeared as if they would go quietly in the first inning, until Tyler Flowers stepped to the plate with two outs and the bases empty.  He proceeded to hit his first home run of the season over the center field wall to put the Pelicans on the board.

Kinston would respond to knot the game at one apiece in the bottom of the second First basemen Todd Martin hit a two out double that scored Nicholas Weglarz from second.

With the score tied at one, the Pelicans entered the fifth hoping to regain the lead Chad Lundahl hit a one out single up the middle.  Then, Robert Marcial walked.  Gorkys Hernandez followed by reaching on a fielder’s choice that loaded the bases.  Travis Jones drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Lundahl to give the Pelicans a 2-1 lead.  With the bases still jammed, Tyler Flowers blasted his second home run of the day to skyrocket the Pelicans edge to 6-1.  Later in the inning, Ernesto Mejia singled home Willie Cabrera to push the lead to 7-1.  The six runs that the Pelicans scored in the sixth inning are the most the Pelicans have scored in one inning all season.

Deunte Heath picked up his staff high third win of the season in six innings of work.  Although he walked six, he held the Indians to just six hits and two runs.  Ferdin Tejeda took the ball in the seventh and pitched two perfect innings of relief.  In the ninth, the Pelicans brought in Brett Butts to put the nail in the coffin.  The right hander struck out two of three batters he faced to end the game.
