Sizzling Salt Lake Bees Sting Portland Beavers 5-0, Raise Record to 16-1 - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PORTLAND, Ore. – Backed by another solid pitching effort and continued timely hitting, the Salt Lake Bees kept their perfect road record intact and extended their winning streak to eight games with a 5-0 blanking of the Portland Beavers Sunday afternoon at PGE Park.

Starter Nick Adenhart teamed with two relievers on a five-hit shutout, Matt Brown hit his second homer in as many days and the Bees moved to 10-0 in road games and 16-1 overall, the best record in professional baseball.

It was the Beavers’ fourth straight loss to the Bees after an 11-9 victory at Salt Lake on April 11.

Adenhart, hailed as the top pitching prospect in the Angels system, out-dueled Portland’s Josh Geer, the reigning Texas League and San Diego Padres Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Adenhart (3-0) struck out five, walked three and held the Beavers (7-9) to four hits over his six innings to pick up his third win in four tries this season.

= Henry Bonilla worked the seventh and Rich Thompson closed out the final two innings to complete the five-hit shutout.

With the Bees already leading 3-0, Brown, who drove in four runs in Saturday’s win over Portland, sent a two-run clout off reliever Mauro Zarate onto the boardwalk beyond the left field wall in the top of the seventh. In six games against Portland this season, Brown has three homers and 11 RBIs.

The Bees got to Geer with single runs in the first, third and fourth inning. Geer (1-2) gave up seven hits in his 5 1/3 innings and fell to 1-2 on the year.

Brad Coon ripped Geer’s third pitch of the game over the right field wall for his first home run of the year. Two innings later, Salt Lake got a two-out double from Freddy Sandoval, who scored when Kendry Morales pushed a single into shallow center field.

Following singles by Brandon Wood and Dee Brown in the fourth, Terry Evans lofted a sac fly to center to push the Bees’ lead to 3-0.

The series continues Monday night at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Luis Rodriguez, who has a 12-game hitting streak, had the day off … Edgar Gonzalez played first base, the first time anyone other than Brian Myrow has played the position for Portland this season. The Beavers enlisted the services of eight different first basemen last season … Myrow, who served as the designated hitter Sunday, walked twice but had his hitting streak halted at nine games … it was the first time the Beavers have been shut out this season.
