Mobile BayBears cannot Get One Over the Chattanooga Lookouts in 5-3 Loss

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - A four-run first inning doomed the BayBears as they fell for the second time in three games to the Lookouts, 5-3.

Shaun Cumberland kicked off the bottom of the first with a sharp double down the right field line and scored on a base hit by Mike Griffin. After a walk to Tonys Gutierrez, Craig Tatum smashed a three-run homer to left field, giving the Lookouts (9-9) an early cushion.

To his credit, Hector Ambriz (1-2) kept his ballclub in the game, and they returned the favor by battling back in the middle innings against Lookouts starter Ramon Ramirez (1-1). In the fifth, John Hester nailed a double to left-center for the BayBears' first hit of the contest. Hester took third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Frank Curreri.

Two more runs came across for the BayBears in the sixth as Bryan Bryne knocked home Ambriz with a single while Yunesky Sanchez came home on a sac fly from Cesar Nicolas. Chattanooga pulled away for good, though, in the seventh on an RBI double by Luis Bolivar off reliever Abe Woody. Josh Roenicke (S, 3) worked the ninth to finish the ballgame for the Lookouts.

Southern League ERA leader Matt Torra (2-0, 0.47) starts for the BayBears on Tuesday night at 6:15 CST as the BayBears will attempt to even the series at two games apiece. The BayBears are back home on Thursday, April 24, at Hank Aaron Stadium when they battle the Mississippi Braves at 7:05 p.m.
