Albuquerque Isotopes Game Highlights, Box Score and Play-by-Play - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Attached is the box score for the Nashville Sounds vs. Albuquerque Isotopes game on 4/22/08 from the Pacific Coast League.  Click on the attached file to download/open. - After eight straight wins, the Albuquerque Isotopes (11-7) finally tasted defeat against the Nashville Sounds (4-15) 13-3, in what seemed to be a never ending game of catch up Tuesday afternoon at Isotopes Park. Sounds’ winning pitcher Mark DiFelice dominated the Isotopes, striking out 11 in seven innings while the Nashville offense belted four home runs and 18 hits while coasting to the victory.

The Sounds wasted little time seizing a lead by scoring three in the first inning. Tony Gwynn took first on a single deep past second base before former ‘Tope Joe Dillon added a double to left-center field, moving Gwynn to third. With two outs, Vinny Rottino cranked out the first home run of the afternoon, bringing both Gwynn and Dillon to the plate for a Nashville lead of 3-0.

While Albuquerque was struggling for hits, Nashville took advantage again in the third. Hernan Iribarren started out for the Sounds with a single to left field. After Gwynn flew out to center, Dillon hit another home run for Nashville upping the lead to 5-0.

The Sounds struck again in the fourth for another two runs. Brendan Katin led off the frame with a towering home run to increase the advantage to 6-0. Adam Heether then followed with a two-bagger through the hole at shortstop and Iribarren followed with a single past shortstop, scoring Heether and bringing the score to 7-0.

After being held to just one hit, a Paul Hoover single, through five, the Isotopes finally broke the silence in the sixth when Hoover added his second hit to left field. Chris Barnwell continued the inning with a double to left-center, bringing in Hoover for the ‘Topes’ first score making it 7-1. It proved to be the only tally scored on DiFelice, who was dominant, fanning 11 ‘Topes while walking none.

Albuquerque dented the scoreboard again in the seventh inning when Dallas McPherson singled to shallow left field and immediately swiped second base. When Tagg Bozied injured his right oblique while swinging, John Gall stepped in cold off the bench with a 2-2 count and redeemed the injured Bozied with a single up the middle to bring in McPherson for ‘Topes’ second run of the day, cutting the Sounds lead to 7-2.

Nashville would erupt for two more runs in the eighth and four additional runs in the ninth to blow the game wide open at 13-2.

It wasn’t the Isotopes’ day for a comeback, but that still didn’t stop them from trying. Brett Carroll roped a one-out double to left-center in the ninth before Gall got his second RBI when he hit a two-out single, scoring Carroll for the final run and making the score 13-3.
