Mobile BayBears Blank the Mississippi Braves 2-0, Brandon Burgess Homers Both Runs In

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – MOBILE, Ala. - A pinch-hit, two-run dinger off the bat of Brandon Burgess propels the BayBears in a 2-0 win over the Mississippi Braves.

From the first pitch on, a pitcher's dual was in progress between Brooks Brown and Dan Smith. Brown worked five innings while giving up just two hits. Smith struck out eight and surrendered five hits in his five innings.
Entering the sixth, the game belonged to the bullpens, and it was the Braves' bullpen that gave in. Kris Medlen (0-2) allowed a lead-off single in the seventh inning to Frank Curreri, who was thrown out trying to score after a double by Chris Rahl. The throw that came in from right fielder Mark Jurich missed the cutoff man, and Curreri sprinted home, only to be gunned down by third baseman Greg Creek. The next batter was Burgess, and he provided the ultimate pick-up with his two-run blast.

Reid Mahon (S, 5) worked the final two innings while Abe Woody (1-0) engineered scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh. The Braves (4-17) only managed three hits against the BayBears (10-11), with only one of those making it to the outfield.
