Dean Patterson Curve Classic News

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - ALTOONA - The semifinal round of the Sixth Annual Dean Patterson Curve Classic was suspended on Saturday afternoon as heavy thunderstorms rolled through Blair County Ballpark.

The first of Saturday's two semifinal contests between Clearfield and Central Cambria got underway with Clearfield leading 2-1 in the top of the second inning when strong storms halted play. The game will be resumed Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and will be played to a regulation seven-inning conclusion.

The second semifinal game between Central and Punxsutawney will be played at 12:30 with the winners of the two games to meet for the DPCC championship one hour following the completion of the second semifinal.

Admission and parking to all Dean Patterson Curve Classic games is free, but fans are encouraged to make donations toward the Dean Patterson Curve Classic Scholarship Fund, which will benefit the Athletic Department of the tournament's winning school.

Saturday's two scheduled consolation games were played earlier in the day with Bishop Carroll and Altoona claiming victories. BC downed Hollidaysburg, 13-9, while Altoona defeated Bishop Walsh (MD), 8-3.

Bishop Carroll scored 13 runs over their first four at-bats and cruised to victory over local favorite Hollidaysburg. Shortstop Nolan Makin was the hero of the Huskies win, going 4-for-4 with four RBI.

Hollidaysburg was paced by second baseman Aaron Kovatch , who went 2-for-5 with two RBI to finish the Golden Tigers' two-game stay in the DPCC 5-for-8 with two doubles and two triples.

Two-time defending DPCC champion Altoona used a complete-game six-hitter from pitcher Jordan Becker to roll past Bishop Walsh from Cumberland, Maryland in Saturday's second consolation round game. Offensively, the Mountain Lions used a balanced attack with eight different players recording one hit. The biggest hit came off the bat of third baseman Mason Stevens , who belted the first home run of the 2008 Curve Classic with a fourth-inning solo blast into the left-field bleachers.
