Jose Fragoso Cements Win for Stockton Ports 2-1 Over Rancho Cucamonga Quakes - Adv A, California League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Rancho Cucamonga, CA -  Rancho set the pace early in Sunday afternoon, scoring in the first inning on an Anthony Norman double down the left line and a Wil Ortiz single. With runners on first and third, Ortiz stole second and on a bad throw from Stockton catcher Juan Nunez, Norman scampered home to give the Quakes a 1-0 lead against the Ports Trevor Cahill.

The duel was on after the first between Cahill and the Quakes Tommy Mendoza as they exchanged zeros until the eighth. Mendoza scattered four hits, walked just one and struck out four. In the other dugout, Cahill went seven innings, allowed one unearned run on five hits and struck out a career high 12.

In the eighth, Aaron Cook came on for Rancho and allowed a lead off triple (foul by at least a foot) to Mike Affronti, and with one out Archie Gilbert singled passed a drawn in infield to score Affronti to tie the game 1-1.

In the top of the ninth, Kelly Shearer retired the first two Ports hitters, but walked Darryl Lawhorn and allowed a single to Frank Martinez to put runners on the corners. On the first pitch to Jermaine Mitchell, Shearer threw a wild pitch scoring Lawhorn from third to give the Ports a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the inning Jose Fragoso went three up and three down, striking out two, to earn his first win of the season.

With the loss, the Quakes drop their fifth in a row and 12th in their last 13.
