Augusta GreenJackets Continue Error Streak, Get Swept by Asheville Tourists

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Augusta, GA – The GreenJackets (11-14) were swept by the Asheville Tourists (18-7) in a three game series on Monday night with a 6-3 loss.  Waldis Joaquin suffered the loss in relief and Augusta was swept for the first time in 2008.
 
The Tourists took a 6-2 lead in the seventh inning plating five runs on four hits, all with two outs.  Michael Mitchell got it started with a two-out double then Brian Rike followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.  Darin Holcomb reached on a fielding error then Warren Schaeffer walked to chase reliever Waldis Joaquin.
 
Helder Velasquez came up next and connected for a grand-slam off of Daniel Turpen to push the lead to 6-2.

Joaquin (0-1) worked 2.2 innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on three hits.                        
 
The GreenJackets got a run back in the eighth inning to cut the lead in half 6-3 when Francisco Peguero scored on an RBI sac-fly from Andrew Davis. 
 
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Brock Bond after Peguero led off the frame with a triple. 
 
The Tourists tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning on an RBI base hit from Velasquez. 
 
Augusta reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning 2-1 when Davis drove in a run from third base with the bases loaded when he bounced into a double-play.
 
Starter Steven Calicutt recorded the no-decision allowing one run on seven hits over four innings worked.  Calicutt walked three and struck out six. 
 
The GreenJackets and begin a four game road trip on Tuesday night in Charleston against the first place RiverDogs.  Augusta will send right-hander Oliver Odle (1-2, 4.66) to the mound while Charleston will counter with right-hander Zach McAllister (2-1, 1.13).  First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
           
Game Notes:
 
Brock Bond has hit safely in 13 straight games and finished 2-for-4 in the game.   
 
The GreenJackets lost four games in a row for the first time this season.
 
Augusta fell to 4-10 at home in 2008
 
Augusta has committed an error in 21 straight games.
