Brandon Hicks of Myrtle Beach Pelicans Named Carolina League Player of the Week

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Carolina League has announced that Pelicans shortstop Brandon Hicks has been named Carolina League Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27.  After missing 11 days due to a quadriceps injury, Hicks returned to form immediately to help the Pelicans win series’ over the Lynchburg Hillcats and the Salem Avalanche this past week.

In his return to the lineup on April 22nd, Hicks quickly quieted any concern that he may have lingering effects to the injury.  The Pasadena, Texas native went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.  The very next night, Hicks again went 2-4, which included a home run, two more RBIs and another run scored.

In the series opener against the Salem Avalanche, Hicks posted his third consecutive multi-hit night, going 2-3 with a Pelicans season-high three runs scored and an RBI.  For a second straight night Hicks blasted a home run in the direction of “Land Shark Landing”.

Since his return, Hicks is hitting an impressive .411 (7-17) with five RBIs and five runs scored.  More importantly, the Pelicans are 4-1 since his return to the field.  Their only blemish during that span was a 5-4 loss to the Avalanche in extra-innings.  The Pelicans now have a firm grip on first place in the Southern division of the Carolina League, 1.5 games ahead of the Salem Avalanche.

Hicks, the 3rd round pick of the Braves in 2007, and the Pelicans open up a seven game road trip on Monday against the Lynchburg Hillcats at 6:05 p.m.  After their three-game set with the Hillcats, the Pelicans will travel to Salem to battle the Avalanche in a four-game series.
