Durham Bulls Waste Scott Kazmir Rehab Appearance in 6-3 Defeat at Hands of Richmond Braves
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 03:02PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Durham, NC – Scott Kazmir pitched five innings allowing only one run on three hits, but Richmond rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to beat the Bulls, 6-3 on Monday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Kazmir, making his final rehabilitation start before rejoining the Tampa Bay Rays, allowed a lead-off home run to Diory Hernandez in the third inning for the only tally against him. He threw 81 pitches (50 strikes), striking out three and walking one.
Durham scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on Justin Ruggiano’s RBI-double scoring Reid Brignac to give the Bulls an early lead. They recaptured the lead, 2-1 in the seventh inning when Dan Johnson scored on a wild pitch but it was short-lived.
ADVERTISEMENT Richmond tied the game in the eighth when Bulls 2B Josh Labandeira’s error with the bases loaded allowed Josh Anderson to score. Wes Timmons scored on a sacrifice fly from Scott Thorman, and then Hernandez singled to score Brandon Jones and make it 4-2. Calvin Medlock came in to relieve Scott Munter, but Medlock uncorked a wild pitch allowing Barbaro Canizares to score and give the Braves a 5-2 lead. Durham tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth inning which the Braves got back in the ninth.
RHP Scott Williamson (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching two-thirds of an inning allowing no runs or hits while striking out one. RHP Scott Munter (1-1) took the loss giving up four runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk.
