Richmond Braves Double Up the Durham Bulls with Big Eighth Inning, 6-3
Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 02:27PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Durham, NC – The Richmond Braves beat the Durham Bulls 6-3 Monday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Braves rallied for four runs in the eighth inning to win the series opener.
The Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Justin Ruggiano. The Braves tied the game in the third on a home run by Diory Hernandez. The Bulls moved back in front in the seventh when Dan Johnson scored on a throwing error off a third strike in the dirt with two outs. The Braves re-gained the lead in the eighth. Josh Anderson scored on an error on a force play to tie the game at two. Scott Thorman’s sacrifice fly gave the Braves their first lead of the night. Hernandez singled a run in and Barbaro Canizares scored on a wild pitch to put the Braves in front 5-2. The Bulls trimmed their deficit to 5-3 in the home half on an RBI single by Joel Guzman. The Braves pushed their lead to 6-3 in the ninth on an RBI single by Wes Timmons.
ADVERTISEMENT Scott Williamson picked up the win. Vladimir Nunez notched a save. Scott Munter took the loss. Hernandez had three hits for the Braves. Ruggiano had two hits for the Bulls.
The Braves and Bulls continue their series Tuesday at 7:05 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Braves are slated to send Jo-Jo Reyes to the mound against Chris Mason.
