Frederick Keys RHP Brandon Erbe Named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Frederick, MD – The Carolina League has named Frederick Keys right-hander Brandon Erbe the Pitcher of the Week for April 21-27. Erbe won both of his starts last week, allowing just two earned runs in thirteen innings of work. The first win came in game one of a double-header against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Erbe went the distance, allowing a run on three hits. The complete game was the first of his professional career. In his second start, the right-hander held the Potomac Nationals to one run on three hits, walking three and striking out six, in six innings of work. So far this season, opposing batters are hitting just .183 against him.

The Baltimore Orioles made Erbe their third round selection in the 2005 draft. After beginning his minor league career in Bluefield and Aberdeen, Erbe played the entire 2006 season with the low-A Delmarva Shorebirds. Despite a 5-9 record, he impressed Orioles officials. In 28 appearances (27 starts), Erbe compiled a 3.22 ERA, striking out 133 batters in 115 innings of work. Opposing batters hit just .217 against him. Now in his second season with Frederick, the young right-hander is off to the best start of his professional career.

Erbe and the Keys are currently on a seven-game road swing. After last night’s rainout, Frederick will play a double-header later today, against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:35 PM. The Keys will play host to the Kinston Indians in a three-game set beginning next Monday at Harry Grove Stadium.
