Tulsa Drillers Fall 4-2 to Arkansas Travelers - Texas League

April 29, 2008 - The setting changed from Drillers Stadium to Dickey  Stephens Stadium in North Little Rock, but the result was the same.  The Tulsa offense generated only two runs as the Arkansas Travelers  defeated the Drillers 4-2. It was the fifth straight loss for the  Drillers.

The Travelers jumped to a quick lead with a two-run first inning  against Tulsa starter Tomas Santiago. Coby Smith led off with a base  hit and came home on a one-out, two-run homer off the bat of Ben  Johnson. It was the fourth home run of the year for the Travs first  baseman.

Arkansas doubled its lead in the seventh inning off Tulsa reliever  Eduardo Valdez. Former Drillers outfielder Jordan Czarniecki led off  with a double and scored on a base hit by Tim Duff. Duff advanced to  third on hit by Cliff Remole and then scored on a sacrifice fly by  Coby Smith.

The Drillers finally got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning  against reliever Kevin Jepsen. Matt Miller singled and Daniel Carte  walked. After a ground ball out advanced both runners into scoring  position, Jeff Dragicevich plated them both with a base hit to  center field that cut the Travs lead to 4-2.

It would be the only offense the Drillers would muster. Tulsa put a  pair of runners on in the ninth inning, but failed to cut into the  Travs lead.

The result spoiled a big night from Mat Miller. The Drillers left  fielder finished with four hits, matching a season high for the  team, in five at-bats. Chris Nelson was the only other Tulsa batter  with more than one hit, going 2-5.

Santiago suffered the loss to fall to 1-1, while Robert Mosebach  gained the win to improve to 3-1.
