Binghamton Mets Blank Trenton Thunder 2-0 to Open Eastern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Binghamton, NY - Binghamton LHP Jonathon Niese gave up just one hit in 5 IP to lead the Mets to a 2-0 win over the Thunder in the 2008 season opener. Niese (1-0) won his Double-A debut for Binghamton.

After Thunder LHP Chase Wright retired the first four batters of the game, Binghamton 1B Mike Carp hit a solo home run in the 2nd Inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. Binghamton (1-0) tacked on a run in the 3rd inning on an RBI ground out by Emmanuel Garcia. Wright settled down and only gave up three hits and two runs in 6 IP. RHP David Robertson followed Wright and tossed two scoreless innings of relief for the Thunder (0-1).

Trenton's biggest threat came in the 8th inning. OF Austin Jackson came to the plate with two runners on and two outs against LHP Eddie Camacho. However, he flied out to the left-center field warning track for the final out of the frame. It was the only time in the game the Thunder had two runners on base in an inning.
