Augusta GreenJackets Turn Off West Virginia Power 6-4 - South Atlantic League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Charleston, WV (April 8, 2008) – In a game that included four lead changes on Tuesday night at Appalachian Power Park, the Augusta GreenJackets used a two-run homer from Thomas Neal in the top of the seventh inning to pull away in a 6-4 victory over the West Virginia Power to even up the series.     

Augusta scored first in the top of the first on Garrett Baker’s RBI double.  The Power answered in the bottom of the inning on Jonathan Lucroy’s two-out RBI single.  West Virginia took their first lead of the game in the second inning on Zelous Wheeler’s run scoring single.  Augusta stole the lead in the fourth on Angel Villalona’s RBI double and MLNGirlsFeb2008_Lisa.jpg

Villalona scored later in the inning on a James Simmons single. 
 

The Power responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead on back-to-back RBI singles from Kurt Crowell and Scott Houin.  Their one run lead was taken away on Neal’s two-run blast in the seventh inning, his second of the series.  Augusta added one more run on Brock Bond’s RBI base hit in the ninth.   

Joe Patterson (2-0) allowed just a hit and struck out three through two and a third scoreless innings to get the win.  Pedro Lambertus (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering a pair of runs on three hits over two innings and Daniel Turpen (2) tossed a pair of scoreless innings to get the save.     

The Power will continue their four game series with the Augusta GreenJackets at Appalachian Power Park on Wednesday morning.  Right hander Roque Mercedes (0-0, 8.10) will get the start for the Power and the GreenJackets will counter with left hander Steve Calicutt (0-0, 0.00).  The first pitch is scheduled for 10:35 AM.
