Akron Aeros Score Seven Unanswered Runs, Double Up Erie SeaWolves 8-4 - AA, Eastern League
Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 10:19AM MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Aeros scored seven unanswered runs on Wednesday night at Canal Park to snap the SeaWolves four-game winning streak by a final of 8-4.
The ‘Wolves got on the board first in the top of the first inning. Wilkin Ramirez singled with two outs for Deik Scram. Akron starter Kevin Dixon walked Scram, however on the play, catcher Chris Gimenez airmailed the ball into centerfield on a stolen base attempt by Ramirez and the ‘Wolves would have runners on the corners for Dusty Ryan. During the Ryan at bat, Dixon threw over to first, but no one was covering the bag. The ball went to the wall near first base and Ramirez scored to make it 1-0 Erie.
Erie went on top 2-0 in the top of the second. Max Leon led off and was hit by a pitch. He then stole second and got to third on a Ryan Roberson base hit. With two down, Leon scored on a sacrifice fly by Freddy Guzman.
Akron got a run back in the bottom of the second to cut the Erie lead in half against starter Andrew Kown. Matt Whitney walked and West Hodges doubled to put 
ADVERTISEMENT runners on second and third with no outs. With one down, Nathan Panther walked to load the bases and with two outs, Chris De La Cruz walked allowing Whitney to score to make it a 2-1 game.
The SeaWolves would add a pair in the top of the third. Scram led off the inning with a base hit and Ryan was hit by a pitch to put two on with no outs. After Dixon struck out the next two hitters, Roberson connected on his fifth hit of the series, a two-run double to make it 4-1 Erie.
Akron would again come back in the bottom of the fourth. Hodges led off and connected on his sixth home run of the season, cutting the lead in half once again at 4-2. Gimenez followed with a double and with one out, Ryan Goleski connected on a two-run home run, tying the game at 4-4.
The ballgame would remain tied until the bottom of the seventh. Josh Rodriguez led off the inning with a base hit. Michael Aubrey followed with a single on a hit-and-run to put runners on the corners. With one out, Hodges picked up his second RBI on a sacrifice fly to center, scoring the go ahead run to make it 5-4.
The Aeros would add three more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take an 8-4 lead.
In the top of the ninth with one out, Ramirez tripled and Scram walked to put two on against reliever T.J. Burton. Burton would be lifted for closer Randy Newsom who retired the final two batters, picking up his fifth save in as many opportunities.
Anthony Tomey (2-2) took the loss for the SeaWolves. He gave up a run in two innings of relief.
