New Orleans Zephyrs Corner - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Game Keys: The New Orleans Zephyrs scored five runs in the seventh inning and defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 7-6.  The Z’s emptied the bullpen using six pitchers in the contest.  New Orleans starter Adam Bostick was ejected by umpire Jake Uhlenhopp in the first inning before he retired a hitter. Bostick argued a pitch after a two RBI triple off the bat of Jeremy Reed. The Z’s pen came in and delivered 9 innings and Jose Santiago got the win. Tim McNab worked three perfect innings, Ivan Maldonado added a pair of scoreless innings. The Z’s missed several opportunities early in the game stranding five runners in the first three innings.  New Orleans scored five runs in the seventh inning.  Michel Abreu delivered a bases loaded two RBI double and then newcomer Valentino Pascucci drove home a pair with a double. Anderson Hernandez drilled a solo home run in the eighth inning which provided the difference.  Carlos Muniz pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth inning for his third save of the season.  New Orleans leads the series 2-1 with the finale on Thursday night.

The Roster -  After adding pitcher Claudio Vargas yesterday, the Z’s made another move today, adding outfielder/first baseman Valentino Pascucci, who began the season with Lehigh Valley, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies ... Pascucci was hitting .232 with one homer and seven RBI in 25 games for the Iron Pigs, after finishing third in Minor League Baseball with 34 homers for Albuquerque last year … Outfielder Caleb Stewart was sent to Binghamton, keeping the roster at 23 players. Stewart hit .221 with one home run, five doubles, two triples and 9 RBI in 20 games for the Z’s.

Game Notes:  Adam Bostick’s outing was the shortest by a Z’s pitcher this season ….  Victor Mendez has hit safely in his last eight games … Collazo’s save Tuesday night was the Zephyrs’ first save in 12 games … Collazo has been asked to get more than three outs in seven of his 10 outings, and has worked at least three innings three times…….  Vargas will make his first start Saturday at Portland … To make room, Jose Diaz will be moved to the bullpen… Michel Abreu leads all PCL first basemen in fielding percentage, having committed just one error in 224 total chances (.996) … Abreu is also the lone Zephyr to start all 25 games this season, and is one of only a dozen players in the PCL to appear in all of his team’s games
