Round Rock Express Fall to the Tucson Sidewinders 4-3 - PCL

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Josh Muecke out-dueled former Round Rock and current Tucson pitcher Juan Gutierrez, but it wasn’t enough to boost the Express, who lost to the Sidewinders, 4-3.

Round Rock struck first in the bottom of the second inning when a Victor Diaz single to right field helped spark a rally. J.R. House reached right after Diaz on a throwing error, and Tomas Perez followed him with a single to left field, scoring Diaz from second. Reggie Abercrombie followed that with a bunt single, and Humberto Quintero grounded out to score House. The final run of the inning came when Perez scored on a Muecke sacrifice bunt.

Tucson wouldn’t go quietly, though, climbing back into the game a run at a time, and taking the lead in the top of the eighth inning – roughing up reliever Jared Gothreaux in the process for two runs on two hits in 2/3 innings of work, taking a 4-3 lead.
It would stick as Tucson retired six straight to seal the win.
Muecke went seven innings, giving up two runs on two hits – including a home run to his counterpart Gutierrez. The Express southpaw left with the lead, and failed to get the decision when Tucson came back in the eighth.
Gutierrez also went seven innings, putting up his strongest start of the season – allowing four hits and only one earned run with one strikeout and two walks.
Perez led the Express at the plate with two hits, a run, and an RBI.
The two teams play the finale of the four game series Thursday night at the Dell Diamond at 7:05 p.m.
