Akron Aeros Fall Prey to Chase Wright and the Trenton Thunder in 12-1 Loss

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Akron, OH)- LHP Chase Wright tossed seven strong innings, and Trenton coasted past Akron 12-1 on Friday night at Canal Park in Akron, OH. Trenton won its 8th straight game with the win.

Trenton (24-12) scored early and often in the win. The Thunder jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on an RBI single by LF Colin Curtis off of Akron starting pitcher Ryan Edell (1-3). Trenton increased the lead to 5-0 in the 4th inning with four runs in the frame. RF Edwar Gonzalez reached on an infield single to start the 4th inning and advanced to second base when C P.J. PIittere was hit by a pitch. After a fielder's choice erased Gonzalez, 1B Chris Malec connected on an RBI single scoring Pilittlere to make it 2-0. 3B Kevin Russo then lifted a sacrifice fly RBI to extend the lead to 3-0. The next batter 2B Reegie Corona doubled home a run, and SS Ramiro Pena followed with an RBI single to cap the four-run frame.
The lead ballooned to 7-0 in the 6th inning on a fielder's choice RBI by Corona and an RBI single by Austin Jackson. The Thunder added a run in the 7th inning on another RBI single by Malec, and plated four insurance runs in the 8th inning off of Akron reliever Shawn Nottingham.  The big hits in the 8th were an RBI double by Pena and an RBI single by Pilittere. Malec finished with 3 H, 2 R, and 2 RBI and Gonzalez had 3 H and an RBI in the win.  Corona had 2 H, 3 R and 2 RBI.

Wright (5-1) went 7 IP and scattered 6 H and 1 R (unearned).  He struck out 3 and walked 3.  Thunder relievers Michael Gardner and Zach Kroenke pitched scoreless innings in the 8th and 9th to wrap up the win.
The middle game of the three-game series is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.  RHP George Kontos (1-3, 3.79) will start for Trenton against
Akron RHP Kevin Dixon (0-3, 5.97).
