Greensboro Grasshoppers Losing Streak Continues with 8-1 Loss to Lake County Captains - SAL
Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 12:40PM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Greensboro, N.C. – It’s not often that a team wishes they were back on the road, but of late the Greensboro Grasshoppers are wishing just that after dropping their eight straight home game Friday.
The Hoppers (18-16) suffered an 8-1 loss to extend the disappointing streak despite another positive performance from Ozzie Martinez.
Martinez went 3-for-4 for manager Edwin Rodriguez, whose team posted just six hits in the contest and his three-hit performance improved his batting average to .368. If Martinez met the league’s requirement of 2.7 PA/team game, his .368 average would rank fourth in the South Atlantic League.

For the Hoppers, the troubles began early as Lake County (21-13) scored the first two runs of the game in the second inning. After allowing Greensboro’s lone run of the game in the home-half of the second, the Captains cruised to an 8-1 victory with single runs in the third, eighth and ninth innings along with a three-run sixth.
Greensboro starter Colby Miller (1-6) took the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. His counter part, Kelvin De La Cruz (2-2) walked a career-high, five batters, but was able to get out of several jams with only allowing one run on four Hopper hits before giving way to a captains bullpen that combined to strikeout seven of the first 10 Greensboro batters they faced.
These same two teams will take the field again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for game three of their current four-game series. The Hoppers are slatted to send RHP Kyle Kaminska to the mound to make his 2008 debut; Lake County is scheduled to counter with LHP Ryan Morris (4-0, 2.84).
