Mobile BayBears Lose 4-3 to Hunstville Stars - AA, Souhern League

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - It was tight from start to finish, but the BayBears pulled up short in a 4-3 loss to the Huntsville Stars at Joe W. Davis Stadium to finish 4-6 on their 10-game road trip.

Mat Gamel's solo home run to start the bottom of the eighth off Jose Marte (0-1) broke a 3-3 tie, but the BayBears (16-19) had a chance in the ninth against Stars (24-11) closer Juan Sandoval (S, 2). Frank Curreri walked on four pitches to begin the frame and took third on a single by Cyle Hankerd. When Orlando Mercado popped out to shallow center, Curreri tagged from third and was gunned down by center fielder Michael Brantley. John Hester flied out to Brantley to end the contest, sending the BayBears home unhappy.

Huntsville scored in the first inning against starter Adam Howard on an RBI double by Matt LaPorta to bring home Alcides Escobar. Escobar put the Stars up by two with a sac fly to score Brantley in the third. In the sixth, the BayBears grabbed the lead from Stars starter Sam Narron with three runs including RBI singles by Chris Rahl and Rusty Ryal. Ryal drove in 14 runs on the road trip.

A home run by Cole Gillespie in the bottom of the sixth knotted the score at 3-3 while Joe Bateman (1-1) replaced Narron in the seventh and allowed just one hit while fanning three in the winning effort.
