Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Slam High Desert Mavericks 6-4 - Adv A, California League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - The Quakes jumped out early lead in the top of the first against High Desert as Rancho loaded the bases with two out and Anthony Norman drew a walk to score a run and PJ Phillips had an infield single to drive home the second Rancho run to take a 2-0 lead.

Amalio Diaz cruised through the first three innings, but ran into some trouble in the fourth allowing two runs on an RBI double by Matt Mangini and an RBI single by Chris Minaker to tie the score 2-2.

In the sixth, the Mavericks got to Diaz again, this time with two outs after Minaker walked, Greg Halman singled and Carlos Peguero singled home Minaker to take a 3-2 lead. First baseman Erick Monzon then singled to center to drive home another Mavericks run to lead 4-2.

That lead would hold up until the ninth when Rancho got three straight hits from Larry Infante, Rian Kiniry and Peter Bourjos to set the table for Abel Nieves. On the first pitch he saw from reliever Aaron Cotter, Nieves sent a long deep drive over the right field wall for his first home run of the season, a grand slam no less, to give the Quakes a 6-4 lead. Aaron Cook pitched a flawless ninth to convert his second save of the year.
