Akron Aeros Halt Trenton Thunder Win Streak at Eight with 3-1 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (Akron, OH)- Akron starting pitcher Kevin Dixon tossed six solid innings to lead Akron to a 3-1 win over Trenton on Saturday night at Canal Park in Akron, OH. Trenton's loss ended an eight-game winning streak.

Down 1-0, Akron (16-19) score the go-ahead runs in the 3rd inning off of Thunder starting pitcher George Kontos (1-4). RF Ryan Goleski led off the inning by reaching second base on an error by Thunder RF Jose Tabata. SS Brandon Chaves then picked up a bunt single to move Goleski to third base. Chaves would steal second base and also move into scoring position. After Jose Constanza flied out to left field, 2B Josh Rodriguez scored Goleski on an infield single to tie the game at 1-1. With runners now at first and third base, Akron executed a double steal with Rodriguez stealing second base and Chaves breaking for home plate on the throw down to second. The double steal allowed the Aeros to take a 2-1 lead.  Akron tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by LF Nathan Panther to make it 3-1.
Dixon (1-3) went 6 IP and gave up 5 H and 1 ER.  He struck out 6 and walked 2 to pick up his first Double-A win. The only run he allowed was on an RBI single to Thunder 1B Cody Ehlers in the 1st inning.  Trenton (24-13) loaded the bases with nobody out in the 1st inning off of Dixon, but could only score one run.  Kontos went a season-high 7 IP and allowed 7 H and 3 runs (1 earned).  He struck out 8 and walked 1.

The rubber game of the three-game series is on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.  RHP Dan McCutchen (4-2, 2.15) starts for Trenton against Akron LHP Chuck Lofgren (1-3, 5.51).
