Mobile BayBears Bullpen Outshines the Jacksonville Suns in 7-5 Win

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – MOBILE, Ala. - In a battle of bullpens, it was the BayBears who shined in a 7-5 victory over the Jacksonville Suns at Hank Aaron Stadium.

With both starters out of the game by the sixth inning, the Suns (16-20) were enjoying a 4-3 lead, but that changed once Brian Akin (1-3) entered the contest as John Hester knocked a two-run double to pull the BayBears (17-19) on top 5-4. Hester then scored on a base hit by Bryan Byrne while Rusty Ryal's seventh-inning home run put the BayBears up 7-4.

Jacksonville started the scoring in the second when Adam Godwin brought home Russell Mitchell with an RBI single. The BayBears snatched the advantage in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Brandon Burgess and a two-run base hit by starting pitcher Brooks Brown.

Lucas May's three-run blast in the third inning pushed the Suns back on top until Akin let it slip away in the sixth. Mario Alvarez started for the Suns and worked five-plus while allowing four runs. Vince Bongiovanni (1-1), A.J. Shappi and Reid Mahon (S, 8) worked five frames out of the pen without giving up an earned run.

BEAR CLAWS
Chris Rahl picked up his team-leading sixth stolen base and was also caught stealing by catcher Lucas May.
Ryal continued his hot hitting for the week as he's hit four home runs while driving home 11 over the last six games.
BayBear pitchers have also been slugging at the dish this week with five runs batted in and a home run.
