Bowie Baysox Defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 3-1 to Take Three-Game Series
Monday, May 12, 2008 at 07:34AM MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – (Portland, ME) - Brad Bergesen (3-0) worked six strong innings and Lou Montanez drove in two, leading the Bowie Baysox (20-17) to a 3-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (21-15) on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs dropped two of three to the Baysox and finished their 7-game homestand at 4-3.
Bergesen earned his second win in as many starts against the Sea Dogs, allowing one unearned run on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts.
Julio Manon notched his 11th save of the season, working two perfect innings in relief. Manon earned four saves against the Sea Dogs this year, hurling five perfect innings and fanned eight. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Sea Dogs loaded the bases against Cam Mickolio. Manon entered the game and retired John Otness, Aaron Bates and Andrew Pinckney.
Matt Goodson (2-2) suffered his second loss to the Baysox this season, allowing five hits and two runs over 4 and 1/3 innings. Nolan Reimold knocked in the first run with a one-out solo homer in the second inning.
Montanez gave Bowie a 2-0 lead with a run-scoring bloop single in the third. The Bowie left fielder added the final run of the series with a solo-blast off Mike James to start the sixth.
Portland's lone run came on a throwing error by centerfielder Kennard Jones in the fourth. Jeff Corsaletti advanced to third base on a fly out by John Otness and scored when the throw hit him in the leg and rolled down the third base line.The Sea Dogs were 0-for-8 with runners-in-scoring position and did not have a multiple-hit inning.
Miguel Ascencio worked the final two innings, retiring six of seven batters faced (one-out walk).
Portland is off on Monday and will travel to Trenton on Tuesday night to start a 9-game roadtrip in 10 days. RHP Michael Bowden (2-3, 2.68) will face LHP Phil Coke (2-1, 4.26) for the second time this season.
Notes...Portland reached a 100,000 fans by drawing 4,948 on Sunday - it's the earliest the franchise hit that mark, breaking the previous records held in 2002 and 2003...Jose Vaquedano was assigned to Pawtucket earlier today and made his Triple-A debut with the PawSox - he allowed one run on three walks in one inning...Outfielder Jered Stanley was added to Portland's roster on Saturday and was in uniform but did not play.
