High Desert Mavericks are Hot, Dehydrate Rancho Cucmonga Quakes who Lose 10-7 - Adv A, California League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Rancho took advantage of Mavericks starter Ricky Orta in the first two innings of Sunday’s game. In the first, Anthony Norman led off getting hit by a pitch and stole second with Abel Nieves at the plate. With one out, Peter Bourjos singled to center and Norman scored on a fielding error on the center fielder to make it 1-0. Mark Trumbo followed with an RBI double off the center field wall to score Bourjos and Ortiz singled to left center to score Trumbo to make it a 3-0 Rancho lead.

The didn’t stop there scoring two more in the second on Flint Wipke’s first home run of the season and an RBI single by Bourjos scoring Norman from third after a one double and stolen base to give the Quakes a 5-0 lead.

The Quakes would add another run in the fifth to make it 6-0 on a Wil Ortiz sacrifice fly to deep left center to score Bourjos who finished the day 4x4.

David Herndon was throwing bullets on the hill through the fourth. In the fifth, however, he allowed three runs on three hits, an RBI double by Kuo Hoi Lo and a two run home run by Matt Mangini to cut the Quakes lead in half 6-3.

Rancho went to the bullpen in the seventh and the three run lead turned into a four run deficit after High Desert scored seven runs on eight hits and brought ten batters to the plate against Marco Albano, Felipe Arredondo and Barret Browning. Albano pitched a third of an inning and allowed five runs on five hits and Arredondo allowed two runs on two hits.

The Quakes tried to come back in the eighth by scoring a run on a Larry Infante RBI double to right center to make it 10-7, but that’s as close as Rancho would get.

Even with the loss, the Quakes are still just two games back in the loss column to first place High Desert and Lake Elsinore .
