With two-outs in the bottom of the third, St. Lucie put a string together of five-straight hits leading to four quick runs and a three run lead. The two-out Mets rally began with a single to right by Luis Rivera. After a Lucas Duda single to right, D.J. Wabick collected the first RBI for St. Lucie with his single to left. Josh Petersen’s infield-single to short kept the inning alive for Josh Thole’s bases-clearing double to left.
Both teams traded a run in the fifth as a Brian Dinkelman’s single to right brought in Yancarlos Ortiz and the Miracle to within two. The Mets Ruben Tejada responded with his own RBI-single in the bottom of the fifth putting St. Lucie back up by three.
A throwing error by second baseman Luis Rivera allowed the Miracle to push across their run in the seventh before a two-out base hit to center by Wilson Ramos in the eighth made it a 5-4 deficit.
Dinkelman kept the ball game alive in the ninth, starting the rally with his two-out single to left. Rene Tosoni followed with a single to right putting runners at the corners for Valencia . Valencia ’s clutch double brought in Dinkelman with the tying run and brought a scary situation to Tradition Field at the same time.
After Valencia ’s two-base hit, Tosoni would be involved in a hard collision at the plate with Mets catcher Josh Thole , trying to score from first. Tosoni was able to knock the ball away from Thole to score the go-ahead run as Thole lied face down at the plate. Valencia would also come around after the ball popped away from Thole and after several minutes, Thole was able to slowly walk off the field under his own power.
Rob Delaney picked up the win for the Miracle in relief tossing two innings, allowing just one hit with a strikeout. Anthony Slama worked a perfect ninth with a strikeout for his sixth save of the season.
