Iowa Cubs Game Highlights and Box Score - AAA, Pacific Coast League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - Portland - 6  Iowa - 10  Box Score attached. - DES MOINES, Iowa – Micah Hoffpauir hit his first home run and drove in four runs, and former Beaver Bobby Scales added two hits and a pair of RBIs as the streaking Iowa Cubs won their sixth in a row by defeating Portland 10-6 Monday night at Principal Park.

Josh Kroeger had a double and a triple, Matt Murton added two doubles and Eric Patterson hit a two-run double during a four-run eighth inning for the Cubs (19-18), who out-hit Portland 14-7.

Will Venable homered twice, Marshall McDougall belted his first of the year and Peter Ciofrone added a pinch-hit shot in the ninth for the Beavers, who have lost their last four games.

Venable gave the Beavers (17-19) a short-lived, 3-2 lead with his first Triple-A homer – a three-run blast to center off Sean Marshall in the top of the fourth. But in the bottom of the inning, Hoffpauir singled, Kroeger doubled, and both scored on Scales’ go-ahead single to right against starter Josh Geer.

Scales, who singled and scored on an RBI single by Luis Figueroa in the sixth, played 204 games over parts of three seasons with Portland (2003-05) and was the team’s first Community Player of the Year in his final year with the club.

The Beavers got a run back in the seventh as McDougall hit a solo homer off Randy Keisler (3-3), another former Beaver who picked up the win after allowing a run and two hits while striking out three over four innings in his first relief outing of the season.

Kroeger tripled home a run in the bottom of the seventh, while Portland first baseman Brian Myrow committed errors on consecutive plays that opened the door for four unearned runs in the eighth for the Cubs, who have won seven of the last eight games against the Beavers at Principal Park .

Geer (2-4) gave up five runs and 10 hits in six innings to suffer his second loss of the current road trip.

Hoffpauir took Geer deep to left after Murton walked with two outs to give the Cubs a 2-0 advantage in their half of the first.

The Beavers conclude their road trip Tuesday at 10:05 a.m. (Pacific) against the Cubs. Following their second scheduled off-day of the campaign, the Beavers open an eight-game homestand Thursday night at PGE Park .

NOTES: The Padres purchased the contract of infielder Edgar Gonzalez earlier in the day … the Beavers activated pitcher Joe Thatcher, who was optioned by San Diego on Sunday … Venable, McDougall and Ciofrone became the 12th, 13th and 14th Portland batters, respectively, to homer this season … Ciofrone’s homer was the team’s third pinch-hit blast of the season, while Venable’s effort marked the third multi-homer game for a Portland batter in 2008.
