Connecticut Defenders Run New Hampshire Fisher Cats Up Tree, Win 7-2 - AA, Eastern League

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com - MANCHESTER, NH - The Defenders started off their road trip with a bang as Dave Maroul homered twice in the 7-2 over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Garrett Broshuis took the bump for Connecticut as he faced off against the winless Brandon Magee. Broshuis and Magee looked stellar as they traded zeroes on the scoreboard for four full innings.

The Cats would be the first to crack the score column as they plated two unearned runs on a two-run double off the bat of Aaron Mathews as New Hampshire claimed stake to a 2-0 lead.

The Defs would waste no time in coming back. In the top of the sixth inning, a hit parade took place. Maroul led off with a solo shot that still hasn’t landed as the lead was quickly cut in half. Brad Boyer followed up with a double, Ben Copeland singled in Boyer and Travis Ishikawa drew a five pitch walk. Carlos Sosa flew out to center field as only two runs were in with two outs with two men on. Simon Klink was next and hit a clutch two-run triple to give the Defenders their first lead of the ballgame. Connecticut wasn’t done as Eddy Martinez-Esteve brought Klink home on a single and Adam Witter ripped a triple to plate Martinez-Esteve and cap off a six-run inning.

The bullpen did the rest of the work as Kelvin Pichardo, Justin Hedrick and Ronnie Ray combined for three scoreless innings to secure Broshuis’ third win of the season.

Meanwhile, Maroul cranked a ninth inning fastball over the left field fence for his second jack of the game and his fifth of the year.

Broshuis’ third win equaled of the 2008 season equaled his win total in 2007. Maroul’s two-homer performance was the first multi home run game for any Defender in 2008 as all five of Maroul’s long balls have come on the road.
