Portland Sea Dogs Snap Six-Game Road Losing Streak, Top Trenton Thunder 7-1

MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com - PORTLAND, Maine - Portland had 28 baserunners and received five strong innings from Michael Bowden (3-3), defeating the Trenton Thunder 7-1 in the series opener on Tuesday night at Waterfront Park. The win for Portland ended a 6-game road losing streak and put them a game and 1/2 behind Trenton for the top spot in the Eastern League's Northern Division.
Bowden tossed five strong innings on three hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts. The righty had his scoreless streak snapped at 15 and 1/3 innings when P.J. Pilittere delivered a run-scoring double in the fifth inning.
Dan McCutchen (4-3), who entered the game second in the Eastern League in ERA (2.15), walked five (Double-A career-high) on six hits and three runs over four innings. Trenton's pitchers walked 12 and allowed a baserunner in every inning.
Tony Granadillo and Iggy Suarez each had three hits for Portland. Granadillo drove in the first run with a two-out, RBI single in the second inning. Suarez followed
Advertisement = Jeff Corsaletti's triple with a run-scoring single in the third. Granadillo came through in the fourth inning, nailing an RBI double down the right field line.
Portland added a run in the sixth inning when Zach Daeges delivered a two-out RBI single. In the eighth inning, the Sea Dogs scored three runs off Zach Kroenke and Josh Schmidt. John Otness had an RBI single; Aaron Bates a run-scoring double and Mickey Hall drew a bases-loaded walk.
Chad Rhoades (2 IP), Hunter Jones (IP) and Daniel Haigwood (IP) combined to pitch four scoreless innings in relief of Bowden. The Portland bullpen allowed one hit on one walk and fanned five.
The Sea Dogs were 7-for-22 with runners-in-scoring position and left 17 runners on base.
Notes...Trenton's 1-5 hitters went 1-for-20...Tony Granadillo entered the game 0-for-22 but reached base four times...Mark Wagner was the only starter not to reach base - the eight starters reached base safely at least three times...Bowden recorded his 300th career strikeout in the fourth inning and has allowed two earned runs in his last 23.2 IP (0.76 ERA)
