MLN - THE RAW FEED - www.mlntherawfeed.com – Erie - Luis Marte, in his Double-A debut, tosses a gem for eight innings, but a pair of ninth inning errors gave the Bowie Baysox a 2-1 win over the 'Wolves. The loss for Erie is the club's ninth straight.
Marte, who was 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA in seven starts for Class-A Lakeland, went eight innings, allowing a run in four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. He allowed just one hit over his final six innings of work and at one point in the game, retired six straight hitters.
The Baysox first run of the game came in the bottom of the second. Nolan Reimold, Ryan Finan and Brian Peterson each singled to load the bases with no outs. Advertisement Marte then induced a 6-3 double play off the bat of Kennard Jones. On the play, Reimold scored to make it 1-0 Bowie.
The ‘Wolves tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. Wilkin Ramirez led off and clubbed his ninth home run of the season over the wall in center. The solo shot made it 1-1. Ramirez is now tied with New Britain’s Luke Hughes for the Eastern League lead in home runs.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning. Reliever Matt Righter gave up a leadoff single to Carlos Rojas and he walked Lou Montanez to put a pair on for Jeff Nettles. Righter struck out Nettles for the first out of the inning. Reimold stepped in and grounded a ball to third base. On the play, the ball was bobbled by Caonabo Cosme, and on the error, the Baysox loaded the bases. The ‘Wolves went to the bullpen once more to bring in a leftie, Juan Cedeno, to face the leftie Finan. Cedeno got the ground ball for a double play he was looking for, however, on the play, the ball got passed Will Rhymes at second base and the winning run scored. The error was the second of the game on as many plays.
