Kane County Cougars Blank the Cedar Rapids Kernels, Craig Italiano Still Undefeated

MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com – GENEVA, IL. – Craig Italiano pitched six shutout innings Wednesday night to improve his record to 5-0 and led the Kane County Cougars to a 2-0 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in front of 6,368 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Todd Johnson homered, and Greg Dowling smashed an RBI double to lead the offense, as the Cougars won their seventh game in the last 10.

Italiano (5-0), who posted his first quality start of the season, and has not allowed an earned run in his last seven outings, a 36-inning span. He pitched six frames, gave up just two hits, walked two and struck out four. Scott Deal worked three innings of one-hit relief to notch his first professional save.

Johnson homered with two outs in the second off Michael Anton (5-2), who had won each of his last five starts. Then Dowling doubled home Walter Correa in the eighth to account for the game's final run.

The Cougars (24-12) and Kernels (18-20) conclude their four-game series Thursday night at 6 CT when Jamie Richmond (3-2, 3.75) faces Michael Davitt (1-2, 7.85).
